Super Champ X2 report.

Hello,
After a fruitful conversation on S.Custom X2 on this forum, I had a one time chance to try it out today (brother in law+car) and on the back of the combo it said 8 ohm min. Different from the other site that showed (clearly) 4 ohm min. Apparently someone put up an incorrect photo, How, I can't figure.
Anyway, that erased any concern I had. I played the amp and it is beautiful thing. Like a baby Princeton Reverb RI.
Very clean at low volume, just like a Princeton. I used only the clean channel. I tried the 2nd channel and you could get some good clean tones or you could find one of the 64 voicings that sounds like a 400 watt Marshal, but pretty much I would never use except as a party trick.
I don't know what more I can say, I love it. If I ever need it on stage, I have a Vintage 30 8 ohm in a nice small cab my combo could sit on, unplug the stock speaker, or I have 2 original 16 ohm Celestions from the late 69's, very old, i bought them brand new for a song, even back then, and with my Blues Jr 3 together, I would have to TRY VERY HARD to get a bad sound.
I have not tried the amp at on 5 or 6 to hear the break up, but around 4 it started to get that nice "tube" creamy type of tone coming on.
Thanks for your help,
SJBuffington

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

Hi,
Since I put this up I thought I'd ask, I thought I had in the past, but could not find it. What happens when you use a set up like mine: 1 15 watt Blues Jr. with 1 15 watt S.Champ. Both 8 ohm with a splitter from my guitar going into both amps at a time, ala E.Clapton in his Cream days?
I know they fight in some electrical way, but do I wind up getting 10 watts from EACH amp at the same time? More/less?
Thanks,
SJB

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

Do not use a splitter, use an ABY pedal. It does not alter your signal and does not change the effective wattage of your amps (even using a passive splitter would not). I use a Radial Engineering ABY for the same trick and it works great. I am also a low-wattage amp guy and 2W is great but is not quite enough when used live, even when wound up to saturation.

Edit: and congrats on the new amp. Enjoy!

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

Is or are ABY pedals available sale all over the place or just a few. I will search, but if you know a good place I am all Forum ears!
Thank You
Steve

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

I live in NYC, so it's a bit different here in that there are very few things NOT available.
The Radial Twin City is the ABY I have. You would have to see if anyone local to you carries it, or just use Sweetwater.

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

Thanks,
Sweet water sounds good, plus, on a lot of their guitars they not only tell you what they WEIGH!- but if they have more they will ask: would you like to see all four of them? I remember 1 L.Paul with four photos of that model in stock and they were all very different, 1 had flame going UP, 1 had slight flame going down, the others had mismatched tops. Another equally good thing was they told you the weight! I never see that, and it is a deciding factor for many people.
I remember all 4 had weights from 8.2 to almost 9 lbs. So I love that store, never seen weight listed on an online menu before or since.

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

love me some sweetwater...

congrats on the amp bro... I have been looking at those.

Jermo3178, TwilightOdyssey,
I took my S.ChampX2, set it on a Celestion Vintage 30 single cab box, hooked up only the V30, and it sounds so good on very low settings. On 3-4 you could get thrown out of you condo. I've just been using the clean channei-Vol, Bass, Treble. Vol on 1.5, bass on 0, Treble on 10.
I don't like digital stuff, bells & whistles, but I did try out the 2nd channel for the voicings. The fist 1-6 voicings a basic, but, 2,3,4,5,6, are all worth trying. I think (in bed now on iPad) that 2,3,4 are extra rich in harmonics. I bought it for the bedroom, but it sounds so good I just have it on my cab next to the couch so I can play on it all day. For the money, best amp I have ever had. The only one I would consider If I needed one for live playing would be the Princeton RI. But that is about 1,000 bucks, but don't need it for home as the X2 sounds just like it at lower volume settings-1 to 3.
Anyway, for live right now I have Blues Jr.3 and a Hot Rod Deluxe 40 watts (very big 40 watts!).
Thanks to all of you guys chiming in,
sjb

No worries. I own a L'il Dawg Champster, which is a tweed Champ clone, and I love it as well! It is super versatile due to its ability to take pedals so well, and I also love it with a single 12".

To give you an idea of how I have been able to twist my Champ :) :

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

Congratulations on the new Super Champ. Wonderful little beast. Though you don't see the point of the Marshall tunings, I use them very often.

Re: Super Champ X2 report.

+1 radial twin city.
but i reckon a simpler, cheaper and better solution for a bigger live sound is just to put the sexiest speaker you can find into you blues junior and use that. keep the champ for home practice.
