Super Strat floyd rose

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I'd guess only about 30% these days,,,,,,down from maybe 75% at the high point of the 80s,,,,,,,,,,,just guesses.
Only ofr and edge-pro bridges myself,,,,,,,,no hardtails for me.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I have floyd OFR, floyd rose II (the supposed cheaper version found in old asian guitars from the 80s) and an edge zero ii-7. Best of all is the Ibanez.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

Majority of mine are floyd-ed, but it's nice to have some that arn't for changing turnings and whatnot. I got a mix of OFR, Gotoh, Schaller, Jackson JT-6, and Original Edge.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I like Floyds and not just on Strats - otherwise string through or hard tail bridges.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I wish Kahlers were more available. The only easy ways to grab one nowadays are the G&L Rampage or that Kerry King sig. guitar.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

These days a guitar has to be something really special for me even to consider it if it doesn't have a FR; in the last 10 years I have bought exactly one guitar without it. You may therefore safely count me in the FR camp.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I love the Floyd Rose on my black Jackson King V guitar which works very well. It takes a while to put on new strings and get everything set up but in the end it's worth it. I have a Floyd style vibrato on my 1989 Yamaha RGX Custom guitar that features a thumb wheel so you can adjust how much upwards travel it will go. The saddles on the bridge also lock to ensure better tuning stability and less chance of string breakage. I've used it heavily throughout the years and it always stays in tune which I love. I think it's called the RM vibrato.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I really like the six screws look of this Super Vee thing. Did I get this right, if wanna try this on my Lone Star strat, no extra drilling ?

that's correct, no extra drilling and the trem is good. if you set it up floating then you can after every full dive to give a little pull up in order to come back to pitch. If the nut is correctly cut and lubed then you'll have a guitar that can stay in tune even under the wildest trem abuse :)

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I like the feel of Wilkinsons and vintage 6 screw trems, but I recognize that they will simply not do what a well set up floyd does. With that said, maintaining a guitar with a floyd is sort of a pain in the butt.

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

You haven't, by any chance, had an opportunity to test the new Floyd Rose Rail Tail? That sounds like the kind of thing you might like, and it… ahem, only costs as much as a FR did in 85. :D

Actually, just now heard of it!

Re: Super Strat floyd rose

I know this is an odd question but do you all think that it's pointless for a Superstrat to not have a Floyd Rose or any locking Tremolo?

Well, I think what makes it 'super' isn't just the trem. I don't think it needs a locking one unless you want one. Jake E Lee played a superstrat with a hardtail.
