Surfers, Suhr silent backplate vs. STK-4 Classic stacks

Hello,

I am considering the Antiquity II surfer set, neck, neck, custom bridge with fralin baseplate with the suhr silent backplate system for a strat.. I like the lively, complex tones of A5 magnets...

Anyone compared the Surfers to Suhr V60's, Fralin Vintage hots?

Wondering how this combo compares in tone, sound, etc. to the Seymour Duncan Classic Stack Plus pickup set? Most of the silent-type single coils don't quite capture the the vibe and feel of real single coils..I have noticed the new classic stacks are getting quite the reception from players....

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Steve

Going with the Suhr Silent system with REAL singles is definitely the ultimate solution.

I would say the Antiquity Surfers are rougher sounding/and more chimey/quacky than the Suhr V60LP (Low Peak version) which are smoother, "creamier" and rounder.

The Stack Pluses, are less dimensional, and do not have all the fullness of real single coils. They carry some of the same great qualities, but they also feel different, the attack is duller and more choked compared to regular singles.

I have not played the Vintage Hots, but you can hear them on acmeguitarworks.com

Make sure you use a NON RW/RP middle pickup if you go with the Silent System. Shield the guitar for ultimate noise reduction, the system still leaves a small amount of high end hiss.

I have the Suhr V6OLP's with the noiseless system, and out of all the noiseless that I have tried, this has been BY FAR the best solution, and is leagues ahead of all the noiseless pickups.

I am actually putting the Surfers in my new Strat w/another Suhr Silent System, so I can report back more when I know :)

Good luck!

I see you have a Tyler also...I have a Studio SE Psych Vomit...I am thinking of putting regular single instead of the classic stacks that are in there with the Suhr silent backplate. You think surfer's or V60's to go with the tyler/duncan slanted bucker in the bridge in my Tyler?

Thanks for the advice. Going to go with the surfers and silent backplate...

I think either way you go, you will be happy. If you want the maximum chime and quack, definitely go w/the Surfers. If you go w/the V60's, I would recommend the Low Peak version (V60LP), it's a handwound pattern that sounds a bit more vintagey. Sweeter sounding would be the Suhrs, brighter/edgier would be the Surfers.

I don't own the Tyler in my avatar, btw, I just like the look of it ;)
