What's the deal with these power tubes? I'm looking for 4 6L6GCs, but they are out of stock everywhere. Some places say they wont' have them until January! Anyone know if there is some secret stash anywhere that I may be able to buy? :)

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

did you try Antique Electronic Supply?

also, Gearjoneser's friend Todd at Revolution Guitar carries the Svets

if that doesn't work, try Lord Valve

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

No luck with either. Maybe everyone is just out. I could probably try the regular Svet 6L6s or the JJ Tesla 6L6s. Anyone have experience with those? Good bad etc.?

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

I've tried the JJ's in my Bassman ...
they're a strong tube
I prefer the NOS Philips "stubby" bottles, though

you might also try KCA NOS, or upscale audio

also try a post on the FDP forum , since they're are so many people over there, someone should know where you find some ...
maybe try asking "Vintage Jon" and some of the others in the amp section

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Looks like Mike at KCA has them in stock. I really trust Mike, along with GJ's buddy at Revolution, even though I haven't ordered from him. I've probably bought about $200 worth of NOS tubes from Mike, and he has never let me down.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Thanks Jeff! What is KCA? Can you give me a website or something?

www.kcanostubes.com

Mike is a great guy, and will treat you right. If you want to spend a little more $$, he can hook you up with some NOS 6L6's, or even som eKT66's that will knock your socks off. I'm a big fan of NOS tubes.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

I think the word got out that the Svet 6L6's were great, and since they'd sold out to Sovtek (I think) everyone wanted the winged C originals. Come to think of it, I should buy some =C= logo EL-34's, just so I have some before they run out.
The JJ's sound fine too. Or, you could spend a bit more and get the GT 6L6GE's.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Damn! I almost forgot I always wanted to try KT66 in my amp and now you talk 'bout them ...

you freakin' bastards :D

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Yeah the 6L6GEs and the NOS ones are just a bit tooo steep for me. Maybe someday hehe. I just ordered some of these Svets, looking forward to how they sound in my Mesa 50/50. Oh and I ordered some of the Chines 12AX7s too, for my new JMP-1 thats coming! I think my rig will sound great after I tweak and mess with it etc.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Musician's Friend has the GT6L6GE on sale for $143.99 a qaud set.
Still expensive, but a lot better than $180. that everyone else is selling them for at the moment.
They are by far the best sounding 6L6's I have ever heard!, tho I haven't heard the winged=C='s yet. The GT6L6GE's sound way better than a new set of JJ 6L6's I just purchased and a set of Sovtek 5881 I have.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Besides the sound, another thing to consider is how tight the internal parts are braced.
Some tubes, when put in a loud cranked amp, give a rattly transient noise, which Svetlanas never have. I'd love to do a 6L6 shootout in a 59 Bassman or Super Reverb. I've done EL-34 shootouts in Marshalls, and my fave's were Svets, Siemens, JJ E-34L's, and real Mullards.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

i just openned a package from MIKE at www.kcanostubes.com with my svetlana S.E.D. winged C duet for my FENDER PROSONIC man these things rock i have them in my SOLDANO too they rule !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

Its not I don't think. There are the regular Svets (Svet was bought out by..someone I forget who) and there are the ones now called SED with the winged C logo. This was the original Svetlana, and are supposed to be great tubes.

Re: Svetlana S.E.D Winged C Question

I like the Svetlana tubes but Im using the JJ 6L6 now in a 59 Bassman RI, I think the JJ 6L6 Low end is much better than the svets. I bought a pair of 6L6 Svets a couple of years ago as well as a couple of pairs of Svet EL34 well before Sovtek took them over, You can check The TubeStore.com they may still carry them
