Swedish DM Testarooni

DankStar

Her Little Mojo Minion
Picked up a Boss HM pedal (HM-2, taiwan version). Been wanting to try the old swedish DM test for awhile with one.

Here's a super quick snippet, no click or anything. Maxed out all the knobs on the pedal, ran it through my randall combo's clean channel, line out to an external cab sim.

The riff is just a goof around dismember-type thing, not really a riff they or entombed used. I think the vibe is kinda close!

It's funny - the pedal feedbacks in a pretty good way with all the knobs cranked.

Were you using a guitar with a single coil? It's a cool riff, I ge the Swedish thing, it's just not FAT enough! ;)

no, a duncan distortion. maybe the cab sim ate up the fat - when I was testing through my amp's speaker at certain times it would rattle the cab cause of bass frequencies. I should probably plan on mic'ing an amp for a song or another test.

I had the exact same inflatable guitar as that guy has hahaha.
I like The sound, but it lacks balls. With a crazy bass player tho, it could rock pretty hard.
Dismember...It's already 12 years I didn't listen to them. Have to check them out again

is yours pink too? hehe

I'm thinking with bass, 2 additional gits, and micing instead of cab sim it'll fall into place. ah well, always a bridesmaid, never a bride. :disappoin some day I'll strap on a set of huge bawlz.

I haven't busted out one of dismember's albums for awhile. my favorite is death metal, but like an ever flowing stream is usually regarded as their best.

Yeah it was exactly the same hahah. Somebody brought it on my Birthday concert as a gag. I rocked it even on stage on a Karaoke show. The girl was singing a very soft song, and I played the classic guitar hero on the stage, begin to hit the girl with it etc, it was fun indeed!:friday:

Dismember had some great moments, but I can't remember which album was my fave.

Re: Swedish DM Testarooni

another test: ran the HM-2 direct, all knobs maxed, then added virtually:

- ruby tube preamp, SIR + mesa impulses, electri-Q on a stock heavy git setting, and G Multi stock multiband compression setting.

Might be closer, might be growing a set of bawlz. Definitely getting a chainsaw effect!

I tried a coupla other virtual amps and preamps, but ruby tube is the only one that seemed to sound good.

Hahahaha!

rats I just remembered - I was going to detune down to full drop D for this test and totally spaced it. I think that's a missing ingredient to the little equation - just listened to a snippet of Death Metal, and they are tuned down pretty far, which I never typically do.

version using mac gear (tal-tube, some free multiband compressor, amplitube 2 cabs, voxengo overtone eq, limiter), still in standard tuning:

gettling close to a thick chicken skin nut sack - with a downtune and maybe an EQ tweak I think I'm almost there.

Re: Swedish DM Testarooni

Now this sounds pretty close to dismember. Nothing thin, enough balls and this typical grunt.
I think you reach your goal pretty soon!
Cheers!

thanks daemonBBQ - your advice is always appreciated. over the years, I've trained myself to not add bass frequencies to guitar so as to leave room for the bass, but I've taken it way too far.

Re: Swedish DM Testarooni

It's a pleasure to listen to your material man! There are riffs which need really cutting mids and highs and no bass, but that's not for the Death Metal sound I know. For instance, Death used lots of low mids but cutting mids and highs, and the Fretless Bass filled the bottom. That gave the guitar definition, and the attackles bass was there for the wonderful lows. But that's not the common practice either.

I tend to add not enogh Highs BTW, either it's scratchy high mids, or too much of bottom.
