Switch tip glue

Let's say, hypothetically, I was taking a 1962 Les Paul/SG out of its case, caught the plastic toggle switch tip on the case lid, and a chunk broke off. It's a clean break and I'm confident it can be repaired, but I need to know what sort of glue I can safely use.

Again, hypothetically.

Re: Switch tip glue

Just replace it. Is it an aged thing because I'm sure somewhere must sell aged toggle switches or whatever. I have a toggle I won't be using, do you want me to send it to you?

Re: Switch tip glue

When I bought my 68 SG Standard it has no switch tip, one tone knob was broken and the tremolo arm was gone...

It is quite better with a new switch (half a dollar maybe) and I don't think someone could tell the difference.

On the other hand a glued broken one could break again and I am not sure it looks cooler.

(I bought that guitar in 2005 : I could not afford a third of its price now !)

Re: Switch tip glue

Thanks, guys.

I’m going to repair the old one and keep it in the case. If it goes back to my dad, I’ll put the original tip back on, but I’ll be using a replacement. Tried putting the one from my Epiphone on, but it didn’t fit.

Re: Switch tip glue

This shouldn’t melt whatever plastic they used in the early 60s?

They were using it way back in the 60's.... I started using it in 1977.... And yes - it melts the plastic, which is why I said SPARINGLY.

Re: Switch tip glue

I bought a half dozen black ones a couple of years ago
For a client whose tip was missing

It was too big

I tried super glue
That didn't work

Then heated the one with the super glue on it
Till it flamed up

Blew it out stuck it on

It's been on there ever since

Contact cement
