some people said it was a good idea, but not necessary.

judging by the reviews on the site though, i really think i can make good use of it.

I just tighten down all 5 springs via claw to convert Vintage Trems into hardtails. Add a bit of foam under the springs if the player doens´t like the "reverb", problem solved.

That said, I still think the idea isn´t bad, I´d just rather use the cash to buy 5 packs of strings ;)

Re: tailfeatherz "hardtail" bridge..necessary?

I put one on a friends guitar recently. One of the trem claw screws had broken thru into the middle pup cavity because the wood was so thin (korean squire).

Ed (Didan) took my less than accurate measurements via several emails and figured out which Tailfeather model would fit the bridge on the squire. After installing the Tailfeather, which was a breeze, there was an increase in sustain when compared to how the guitar was previously (all the springs tightened down as much as possible). Tuning stability improved and there was also reduction in weight.

If you want to make your floater a hardtail in about 5 minutes, shoot Ed and email. He was so cool to deal with that I would have kept the Tailfeather for a future project even if it didn't fit the squire bridge.

He also sent along a parrot keychain and an actual tailfeather from his african grey parrot "Toby". He has some hilarious video and audio of Toby at his site.

Cool guy.

Although there are ways to block the trem without a Tailfeather, it is a well designed and easy mod that really works. Works great in my Strat :smoker: and yes, Ed is a very kool guy.
