Tale of a Hamer pickup swap

Well, I was feeling a little adventurous today. So I took my Hamer Mirage I, which is a completely stock 1994 of which I am the original owner, and I yanked the Vintage Rails right out of the neck. I dropped in a Cool Rails and holy crap do I prefer that pickup. I'm getting tones out of this guitar I have not been able to get out of it because of the weak ass Vintage Rails. I do a lot of leads with the neck pickup, and the VR just didn't have the oomph I wanted. I kept this thing stock for so long because it has tremendous sentimental value. But I figured, I'm never getting rid of it, I might as well enjoy everything about it. So now, with a Hot Rails/Vintage Rails/Cool Rails combo, I have what might possibly be the most verstile guitar known to man. It will do damn near everything, at least everything I would ever expect out of it.

Here's a crappy pic of it if you guys have never seen it before:

I love that combo in a strat, and I must say I love that axe. :)

What kind of construction does it have.

Re: Tale of a Hamer pickup swap

It has a mahogany body, set mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard and 25.5" scale, arched flame koa top and a Wilkinson VSV bridge matched with Schaller locking tuners. Essentially, it's the perfect blend of a Strat and a Les Paul. I call it my PRS killer.

Wow...great lookin' guitar. You can just tell lookin' at at that it sounds good!

I need to experiment more with Duncan's other noiseless pickups like that.

Thanks for the post!

Nice axe. I'm going the opposite direction as you right now. I recently sold/traded my 3 CR's for VR's. We'll soon see if I made the right decision. ;)

Re: Tale of a Hamer pickup swap

If you like Strat tones, then the Vintage Rails are great for that noiseless single coil vibe. I tend to play a little heavier than what seems best for those pickups.
