Talk me out of Antiquities for my 335

Re: Talk me out of Antiquities for my 335

I could have sworn I read in a Guitar World that he had Antiquity's in his SG. However, I'm not that familiar with Derek Trucks rig for whatever that's worth.

It's been stated by forum member gripweed that in an interview published in the April, 2006 issue of Guitar Player magazine, that DT's #1 SG hosts an Antiquity set.

About D.T.s SG -
I heard him say he uses his neck pickup most of the time anyway, so don't judge his tone with anything, unless you use your fingers, on the neck pickup. And need advice for those playing "irregularities" (slide on neck with fingers) is all I meant by irregularities, just couldn't find a better word.
Also, I am not making this personal or trying to be a d**k. Just pointing out big differences. Also he uses an .11 set. For whatever that's worth.

Hard to compare tone to DT's...that dude is special and very few sound/play like him. And, I wouldn't base my decision for pickups for a 335 based off of a set in an SG.

Seths are probably what you are looking for, but I think PRails would be awesome and more versatile in a 335.

I've also read interviews with Derek where he was asked what kind of pickups were in his SG and he said he didn't know. "Whatever it came with" was his answer and what it came with, at the time, were 57 Classics.

But I can believe Derek likes Antiquities. So do I.

As for Antiquities or Seth Lovers in a ES-335, that's not the tone I think of when I think of Larry Carlton's '68, Eric Clapton's '64 or BB King's 60's recordings with his ES-355.

Ants or Seths would be excellent. But it would not be the tone I hear in my head when I think of a classic recording made with an ES-335.

I've owned a few 335's. Owned at least two from 1958 and a couple from the early 60's. A 1960 ES-355 was my favorite semi-hollowbody I ever owned but it was stolen from me around 1980.

These days I play a 2000 ES-335 with Tom Holmes humbuckers.
