Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

The funny thing is that you can pretty much copy any famous sound out there, but not using the amps modeled after those player's amps. For instance, the best Satch and Eric Johnson tones I ever found for the Eleven Rack came from models like the Soldano. The Marshall/Chandler Tube Driver didn't get the EJ tone as much as a couple of the other models. If you go on the internet and listen to samples of Eleven Rack artist tones, you may be surprised at which amp model is getting the most authentic tone.
Ha, I know exactly what you mean. When I first got my Line 6 AX2212, some of my heaviest tones came from me barely tweaking some of the presets of Clapton, and Page, and such. I'd put a little boost in front of them and it was heavy rock heaven.

(So you don’t need ProTools)

I own and use an 11 Rack with a Ground Control Pro >>stereo QSC K12s & Ksubs and EV SxA250 powered speakers >> 16:4:2 Presonus Mixer

Lehle Dual Amp Switcher Pedal feeding off of the 11Rack into Holland Little Jimi amp.

Pedals feeding into amp are SD Twin Tube Blue & Deja Vu Delay
Can't read that against the blue background.

It appears that Pro Tools can be a bit fussy. Do yall think my best bet would be to just build a computer around Avid/Pro Tools Specs? How much do you think that would run me?

Any Intel-based computer that's specifically built as a "DAW" system will run Pro Tools just fine.

If you want a system built, PM me. It's one of the things I do for a living. :D

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

I said screw it and went ahead and bought one, and I'll tell you why. The Eleven Rack with the expansion pack, Pro Tools 10, and four free plug-ins is $648 right now at Musicians Friend. Pro Tools 10 is about $600 as is by itself. Musicians Friend has a 15% off sale right now if you spend more than $449. I called my order in and the salesperson gave me the 15% off. That right there brought the Eleven Rack and everything that comes with it down to $551. That just seemed like a no brainer to me. I also bought a rack, a bunch of cables, and some other stuff. It basically boiled down to me buying the Pro Tools 10, and getting the Eleven Rack and all of the other items for free, if you want to put it into a different perspective. I think I did good, and I'm happy about it. I just need to get me a good computer setup for recording now, but I'm in no major hurry for that.:)

Cool man - for now you can run direct into your stand alone unit!

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

I was always thinking about the ultimate recording computer so I could run a million plugins simultaneously. You might wanna check this out: http://www.sweetwater.com/creation_station/

I must say my quadcore works for me just fine tho, congrats on your purchase! that 15% off prompted me to get my 810 full stack a few weeks back since gallien was going on the no-sale list with their new line.

I haven't tried Pro Tools for a couple of years since the Eleven Rack first came out, but I hear that it has improved and become more friendly with common sound cards and stuff. A computer 1-2 years old with decent hardware and enough memory should be sufficient. You can buy an audio interface or sound card and probably not have to spend a whole lot. The great thing about the Eleven Rack is that it does a whole lot of stuff as a stand-alone unit.

ya I dig stand alone unit type thingies in that sense, since it is all inside that box and not inside my computer slowing it down. battle the latency!!

I just barely figured out reaper. I still do not understand basic stuff like how to adjust a compressor, so I just use presets for pretty much every plugin. I do like reamping, so that is an issue with my tech 21 oxford pedals, but oh well, less fiddling with knobs is prolly better for me; I do adjust my IR impulses after the recording though. I take the free mixing/recording classes at the local Sam Ash, and that stuff blows my mind! In that respect, based on ya'lls comments I am soooo glad I dont need to sign up for the pro tools classes ;) bet simple recordings are possible though, but still I remember one dude that demolished a wall for his home studio that was just peppering the sam ash professor with questions about getting his pro tools working...

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

Does it work yet Jolly?
You can make anything sound great:D
Thank you, sir!! That means alot coming from you. It hasn't arrived yet. I did however get a Line 6 pocket POD in the mail yesterday afternoon. That's a fun little toy to play around with. I'll try to do some recording with it today and post the results.

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

You do not need Pro Tools to edit patches on the Eleven Rack. You DO NOT NEED PRO TOOLS to EDIT patches on the Eleven Rack.

Why do people keep saying you need Pro Tools? Pro Tools is only needed for backing up your presets to a computer. There is a free preset loader called Elevenhack

Probably because some folks are dead set against editing using front panel controls. I see it a lot in the AxeFx community.

To me it's way easier to edit from the front panel than it is in pro tools. At least for the Eleven Rack it is

It's awesome. If you ever owned a POD then you would probably love it. It still feels like you're playing a processor, but it's probably the most real tube amp feeling processor out there.
Have you played an AxeFX? I've had the opportunity to A/B both, and an AxeFX definitely sounds more real and has more usuable models IMO. That being said, Eleven racks do sound much better than Line6 and they're also much more affordable than an AxeFX these days.

... or taking win8 off and putting Win7 on it.
This is true in most cases, but you need to be really careful about off-the-shelf systems. In many cases a new computer built for the newer OS version won't work with the older version due to unavailable device drivers. I don't know about other manufacturers, but HP has stated that Windows 7 will not work on their new Windows 8 machines for this reason.

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

Well, it's been sitting on the floor unopened next to my front door since Friday afternoon. I've been too sick to even open it up and mess with it. Maybe I will later on this afternoon or tonight.

Re: Talk To Me About The Eleven Rack

Get it out of the box, into a rack, and you will start to feel better...

Actually, just get well, Jolly. (It wouldn’t be Xmas without Jolly and a Ho, Ho, and another Ho)
