Tapping. I hate tapping

Re: Tapping. I hate tapping

I am guessing the 19 y.o. said something to annoy Jerry. Like the whole "you need to improve on (such and such)" What is it with people who are not as good as you at guitar saying crap like that? Guitar is a lifetime achievement and it seems like twerps like this have to give you something to feel down about or to make themselves feel bigger. Don't worry Jerry, Tell him there is a kid 2 years younger than him who can shred his ass to the BONE. Maybe dial some mids into his crappy modelling amp and tune his guitar standard when he isn't looking eh?

Maybe in another few years your ego will die down a bit, at which point you may remove the enormous chip from your shoulder.

Re: Tapping. I hate tapping

I do have to take a little back at what I said..

this guy rocks and I enjoy listening to his tapping...link

BTW..Is anyone else getting skeeved out with the repeated use of the words "tapping","tap" and "tapped"in this thread?

Its starting to sound..IDK...perverted.....

i love this song and the tapping, like someone else here said, mmmmmm, tasty.

Re: Tapping. I hate tapping

I thought i hate to bring this to the top, but heres what I meant; Not taht i'm in a shootout with the guy, and Im sorry if thats how it sounded, but lets say If one of the great legends were there , for instance, doing straight blues licks, or rock riffs, through a clean amp or a mrashall... this guy; this hypothetical 19 year old( which isnt exactly hypothetical cause he's ubiquitious at any gig, jam, guitar store or whatnot)- will start this tapping. Now im assuming this guy isnt a prodigy doing 8 finger tapp licks... and like i said, you may be Eric Clapton with his back turned to him, and hes going to think you cant play worth a crap cause his insane tapping through that Peavey XXX is just so friggin awesomne..get my drift?

Then there is nothing wrong with tapping. You just have some qualm with a snotty 19 year old(whom might not think he's so snotty, did you ever talk to him?) who does ****ty tapping at a music store.

Don't knock on one of the coolest legato techniques that can be done on guitar... Have you ever heard of Kiko Loureiro? Stanley Jordan? Fernando Miyata?... These guys are incredible at tapping and use it very musically, like any other technique.

Stanley Jordan is a monster at tapping, that's all he does!

Re: Tapping. I hate tapping

i have seen a handful of the 'pianistic' tappers this week ... the guys who play with only a clean tone and play with two hands over top .. i have seen it on both acoustic and electric .. when stanley jordan broke about 25 yrs ago, i found it to be quite cool, but not enough to sustain my interest for an entire album or concert

these days, i dont like it at all, even though i recognize and salute their talent ... its just that , to me, they all sound exactly alike ... it is hard enough for a guitarist to find a 'voice' on the instrument .... these guys have dexterity skills, but most do not have the individuality of expression

it all just sounds like 'beep beep beep beeeeeeeeeep' and 'doo doo doo doooooooo' to me

Re: Tapping. I hate tapping

Tapping rarely impresses me. Now and then there is the odd person who can put it to good musical use but to me it is mostly a show off trick. To be fair though it is possibly the easiest way to make a room full of non-musicians think you're a god!

That's funny because a lot of it sounds like piano anyways. How can they not have the individuality of expression? They are expressing themselves polyphonically! There is nothing wrong with tapping, I would agree with you that I too would probably lose my interest in a concert, but to be honest with you I would lose my interest half-way through a normal concert of players who don't do any tapping at all. It all comes down to one thing: Whatever floats your boat.

Eric Clapton is probably one of the most boring players I've ever listened to, in my opinion. As with a handful of other musicians who people claim to be gods.

I respect your opinion, just not that last part. Individuality of expression. Have you heard of Fernando Miyata? What an insane player.

Re: Tapping. I hate tapping

Hit something there??
Well it seems that way to me...still even more pointless now...
It s just a technique...some use it better than others, some hide it more, some make it stand out alot....most of us do not care, just as long as the notes have meaning, they can play them with a whole tree for all I care!

The fact that the rules of conduct are only posted in the off topic room doesn't mean that you can talk to people in that manner in other rooms.

:poed:
I hope you would erase your comment and apologize to Rid.
