Tater project.

Re: Tater project.

Strange. I wouldn't have expected that wide spacing either, for the most part they all use the same spacing.

That's a dowel and re-drill job there, not that big a deal if you've got access to a drill press. I'd probably stick with the gotoh in there anyway, dowel it, put the gotoh posts in, yep.

That's what I'm thinking also. I don't have a press and there is no way I'm dumb enough to try and hand drill this. I have a close friend who does all the work for a few of the local shops so I might just do the dowels then farm this install out to him. I need to get some spacing measurements but everything I see is in mm not inches and I don't have a way to measure metric. I will see if I can pick something up to use on the cheap today to get the spacing on the existing system.

Re: Tater project.

Well this one just threw me a big curve!
The Gotoh won't fit the rout it's to narrow. Was not all a loss though as the Gotoh fits the rout on the Washburn project like a GLOVE!
Now I have to figure out what will fit this thing here is a photo with the Gotoh in the rout on Tater.

Sure didn't take long when I pulled the old system to figure out why there were tuning issues with the guitar look at these ( used to be ) knife edges YIKES!!

Wonder what would fit this rout??

The wear looks like my old RG, which had a Lo-TRS II. Typical - knives are too fat/studs too pinched for it to work properly,

That's an unusually wide post spacing. Most Floyds, like Gotoh, OFR, Ibanez etc. are more or less the same (around 74mm), give or take a few mil; the differences are the overall footprint and routes.

The post spacing is one thing and is easily corrected with a pair of dowels and a re-drill. However that ugly rout under the factory trem that will show with the Gotoh is another issue. I need to think this one through here and might use the chrome Gotoh for the Washburn project and order a Black Gotoh for this one and then do a flat black spray in the rout, I have a set of Black tuners and knobs on hand. Need to let my buddy look this one over and I will keep you posted.

Ascension, if you were to move just the right post then there's a good chance the Gotoh would cover up the route better and you wouldn't even need to re-drill the left one.

Other than that, the Washy is looking pretty sweet!

Re: Tater project.

Looks off center to me, I'd make damn sure first. Use a string or a straightedge from the 1st and 6th nut slots to the bridge to check.

It would be off center to just dowel and drill the one side and I need to do both sides to center everything and do this right. The issue with the rout is that there is a channel routed that will show with the gotoh centered around the bass plate. My thoughts right now are to pickup a Black Gotoh after Christmas and go with straight Black hardware then paint the rout area flat black under the trem. That way the rout would not really show until you got right on the guitar.

Re: Tater project.

Paint the hole anyway, chrome or not, I always do. Kinda hides the dirt and funk that accumulates in there.
