Taylor 150e 12 string?

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

Yeah John, thats the exact model! I was set to go with the Taylor, but for under three bills... I have one of the Taks on the way..Thank you so much for the heads up Bro! I figure the taylor neck may be more comfy, but I was walking the fine line where I knew I had to spend alittle to get something good, but really wanted to keep from spending much. Esp since we just spent for Christmas.. Takamines have a great rep, so Im hoping this one will follow suit. Thanks again!

Of course here is a ticker... now that I ordered the Tak, the dealer I was speaking with about the Taylor sent me an email offering me a very awesome price on the Taylor. Even with that, it's still $300 more than I paid for the Tak, so Im not going to lose too much sleep over it...

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

I scored a beautiful Taylor Koa 12 and since I got my Martin d28, the Taylor just hangs on the wall. It's too pretty and plays too well to sell. But only so much guitar time in my world.

Could you describe the difference in tone between your koa and other guitars? I have played (although never owned) Taylors and I'm sold on their comfort and quality, but I'd like to know more about the koa sound and I'm not able to find a koa around here to play. Thanks so much!

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

I've owned 3 12 strings over the years an entry level yamaha followed by a Takamine EG523SC-12 & now I own a 1998 taylor 355 which is head & shoulders the best 12 I've played, it playability is on a par with some 6 strings I've played & the taylor necks are the slimmest I've come across in 12 strings.

I've never played a guild 12 but accept they do seem to be the industry standard, & the only way to truly differentiate is to try to play both, which isn't always possible.

The one thing I've been appprehensive about regarding 12 string guilds is I understand (I may be misinformed here so I'm sure someone will let me know if I am) they are
constructed with 2 truss rods opposed to taylor's 1, now this probably makes them sturdier & more stable but I would guess there need to be substantially more wood in the neck construction to house two rods which may make the playability harder.

Oh & when you're not playing a twelve string, tune it to C#, I left the tak in E & it lifted the soundboard,

Yeah, Taylors are amazing players. The tone isnt always as "warm" as some others, but the necks are heavenly. And the guitars are extremely consistant.

A little off topic BUT if you want a superb Taylor, look at the Taylor Koa GS Mini. Nearly bought one but my budget would not allow it (unless I forfeited my new Warmoth project lol)

The Guitar Center near me had one...outstanding guitar! Warm tone with a bright touch...if that makes sense. lol

You are correct, Guild 12's (or at least my 212XL) had two truss rods. If you prefer a thinner neck, then write Guild off because their 12 strings have thick necks. It didn't personally bother me but I could definitely understand someone being bothered by it.

Detuning when not playing is great advice! So much pressure from all of those strings, especially on a guitar without two truss rods ;)

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

Damn. I was hoping that you had it by now.

No man.. They tried to deliver yest. At work.. No the site says next delivery attempt will be JAN 4.... So its gonna be somewhere, lonely.... the only attention its getting is being tossed around by guys in brown clothes.... Especially worried cuz there is no case or anything...

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

I know you did the deed but I have to tell you that I have the Taylor 150 12'er and it is awesome. My first 12'r and Taylor. It sounds great.

Another thing, it does not have the 100 or level 200 preamp and pickup system. It has the ES system that is in much more expensive, upper level models and it sounds great thru my Fishman Loudbox Performer, brand new version.

I have a beautiful Yamaha "L" series six string with multi sensor pickups, no under saddle piezo, and the Taylor 150 sounds as good or better.

I liked the Taylor so much I bought a Taylor 110ce six string cutaway dread that I also like a lot, but it does not have the upscale pickup preamp system, just a simpler ES system and it does not have that same awesome sound of the 150, but still sounds great.

I thought this info from someone that actually has a Taylor 150 12'er would be interesting and useful to prospective buyers. It gets great reviews from those that bought them, placing them much higher in the hierarchy of 12'ers than most would expect.

Good luck with your purchase and I encourage you not to forget the Taylor 150 as time moves forward.

I sympathize with how you feel. I have been thru that anxiety a few times. You re really going to dig it when it gets there, and I hope it's in real decent shape.

Went to the page. That is a cool guitar and a flamed maple body too. That will be beautiful. I had a real nice anniv. Seagull six string with a spruce top and curly maple back and sides that I eventually gave to my son, a trained musician. Ten years of piano. He's a great gutar player, bass, and singer. 24 with a week old beautiful baby girl. I went to see the baby on Monday with gifts and gave him a PRS SE Custom 22 and a nice 30 watt amp (I have other SE's and amps). He says it is the best guitar he has ever played.

Good luck with the new twelve string. You will love it. It takes some getting used to, especially leads.

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

Thanks for the input Duffy1949! And Congrats on the granddaughter! My first grandchild will be here in a few more months. I LOVE Taylors, and I absolutely wont forget about this model. And in the back of my mind, I keep questioning whether I made the correct choice.. BUT... I rarely play accoustics and money is pretty tight, so I was trying to get the best I could for the least amount of money.

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

Like Duffy1949 I am late to the party on this topic and I also own a Taylor 150e. I didn't try a Takamine, but at the time against a similarly priced Faith and Martin I preferred the Taylor. Sounds excellent, played like butter out of the shop, plus excellent electronics. Couldn't recommend it enough, however I am sure the Takamine will be good as well. Enjoy!

Re: Taylor 150e 12 string?

I hope I like it! I keep kinda wishing Id waited and paid the extra money for the Taylor....
