TB and SH differences

Just looked at both of my SD pup boxes that I had the guitar shop install 10 years ago.

They are both SH (CC & DD) models not TB. They have gone in my Kramer with a Floyd...were they supposed to have been TB's? and what the hell is the difference for?

Thanks

Re: TB and SH differences

TB is Tremolo-spaced, SH is standard humbucker (older Gibson tuneomatic) spaced.

Both types of bridges have a slightly different string spacing, and the idea is that the strings should pass directly over the center of the pickup poles. To do that, you need to make pickups for both string spacings.

Some years back, Gibson changed the angle of their TOM such that trembuckers will line up with the strings.

If you're getting a sound you like from the pickups, there's no need for concern. Personally I prefer a non-F-spaced Distortion in a Floyded guitar. When the poles line up perfectly I detect a touch more articulation but a lack of "grind", especially in the higher strings.
I'd rather have the grind.

I agree with the good Dr.

Also, the non-F-spaced pickup mounted at an angle works for my ears better than an F-spaced pickup.

For a Kramer Baretta (OG) with a slant pup I am thinking it is pointless as the poles will never line up with the strings they are associated with. My Kramer has always sounded good too. I measured the original schaller pup and is the exact same size as the SH pups that I have....which I think is right at 2" from edge to edge ging across the top of the pup. I will check the strings out later.

What Does Trembucker mean and how is it Different from humbucker

Thanks I missed this.

Re: TB and SH differences

With a slanted pickup like in many Barettas, Hamer Californians and other superstrats the poles of a normal spaced humbucker will actually line ub better than those of a trembucker in most cases, as this was one of the ideas behind slanting them (the other main one being a bit more of a strat like response) :)

I personally prefer a TB on the bridge for the more even response and articulation on my floyded axes, but the difference isnt gigantonormous. I usually just drop in whatever I have lying around and go from there... but when purchasing (new or used) I always go for what lines up better ;)
