TB4 question.....

I have a TB4 JB in the bridge and was wanting a pickup that was just a bit hotter but close to the characteristics of the TB4 JB- any suggestions would be great. I just can't decide. I prefer to buy a different pickup and not modify the magnets in this one. I tune in E standard.

Thank you.

Re: TB4 question.....

well if you really don't want to swap the magnet
you could get the Duncan Distortion
which is the JB with a Ceramic Magnet instead of the A5 in the JB

most folks like the A8 Magnet in the JB
the Distortion comes as close to JB8 in a production magnet as you will get

Re: TB4 question.....

Thank you guys. I dunno if you saw my other thread but basically I have a Jackson DK2M- which is a adler body, maple neck/fretboard, TB4 bridge and Jazz neck with a Jackson licensed Floyd Rose trem. Guitar sounded perfect IMO.

I needed a setup on the guitar and got the tech to put an original Floyd Rose on it as well. Since I got the guitar back it has a bit of a muddy Low E- all other strings sound fine. I tried everything to get the low E to sound how it did before the trem swap, including adjusting pup height ,the poles, taking a spring out of the new trem (the orig had 3 springs and the tech put 4 in the new Floyd) with no luck. It is so close and even sounds good on the first few frets-as far as barre chords and open E chugging sounds fine. As I move up the fretboard doing a barre chord the low E muddy sound starts.

Do you think switching to a little bit of a hotter pickup could solve this problem? I would like to keep the Floyd rather than switching back to the original tremlo (which is what caused the problem as far as I can tell)

Re: TB4 question.....

Try replacing the low E screw with a hexhead if you need to tighten it up.

Slightly hotter than a JB is the Distortion. It's a JB with a thicker ceramic magnet instead of an A5.

Re: TB4 question.....

dominus- can you tell me where to get the hex head screws for the poles? I want to try this but can't locate them- all I can find is the flathead screws.... Thanks
