Has anyone got one of these?

I know that it can do a lot of stuff but I was thinking of using is as a delay/reverb unit with my Screamer combo?

Any opinions?

2 questions:

- what does the dynamic (ducking) delay do? I've read a description in the manual, but I not sure that I understand.
- since the G Major is the send/return loop, is the compressor of any use?

Delay ducking is when the delay effect is dampened to a set level when there is input across it and the full delay effect occurs after you stop playing. That way your played passages dont get buried in the delay effect.

I dont have my G Major in my loop, I insert it directly between my preamp amd power amp. Effects loops are normally unity gain devices and the amp wont respond well to large changes in voltage between the send and the return levels so if you use a compressor in the loop, keep your gain close to unity. If you are getting -3db of compression, set the gain to +3bd.

I've got one as well and like it very much. The effects (and there's a bunch) are high quality and I don't notice much if any tonal loss with the unit engaged. I'm running it in conjunction with my Spina Modded TS-9. No complaints here.

I don't have one but I'm hoping to get one in the near future.
I've seen many ppl get great sounds out of it... in particular, there's this local musician who plays his PRS into a G Major and a Mesa Tri Axis (thats all he uses). He gets unbelievable tones out of it... and he covers many styles of music.

The g-major and the triaxis just fit really well. I don't know why exactly though. The thing thats really impressive is its transparency. For a $400 dollar unit the thing really outshines itself.

$400-500 is a BARGAIN for the quality of these things. Like other have said, the transparency of the unit is amazing, and the quality of the effects is nothing short of outstanding.

Marin, if your just after delay/reverb, you might want to consider a Rocktron Intellifex. I've just bought a Screamer combo like yours and I'm running my Intellifex LTD in the loop for delay and chorus effects. The Intellifex is a great unit and very transparent so it doesn't over process your tone.It also has delay ducking. As Robert says, with ducking, your playing doesn't get swamped by delay until you hit that last 'big' note then wham! you get great delayed decay - one of my favourite effects!.
It's definately worth thinking about if you don't want all the bells abd whistles.

- does the Intellifex has a delay limit of 418ms?
- it is digital like the G_Major?
- is the Intellifex still in production?
- does it have chorus, EQ compressor as well?
- do you use the mixer knob at the back of the Screamer. I use it with the DD-3 so it combines the (digital) delayed signal with the raw tube signal. In this way, the sound sounds less "digital". I was thinking of doing the same thing with the G-Major. What do you think?

P.S. I've seen the Intellifex second hand for 250-300 euro's. The G-Major is 390 Euros new.

Marin, I have a Rocktron IntelliPitch which has the same algorythms as the IntellEffect plus a 3 note diatonic harmonizer. I sold my IntellEffect to buy the G Major.

The dalay length depends in the algorythm used. Some algorythms do have a 400+ ms length, while the dynamic delay may have closer to a 700+ ms length. None of the delay options are 1 second or more.

There is no compressor or EQ options on the IntellEffect. There are also no panning, tremolo, phase or flangers in the IntellEffect. Chorus, delay, reverb, pitch and Hush are pretty much what you get. While there aren't nearly as many effects and features in the IntellEffect, what you do get sounds very good. The IntellEffect is definately one of the most transparent processors I have heard.

The IntellEffect Online is still in production.

It's an effects processor. In my opinion, if you're looking for a processor that has the effects that the g-major has, get the g-major. It's a top notch effects processor. If you can afford it, go for it.

Hi Marin,

In answer to your questions, there is a patch on the intellifex that has delay up to 1.5 seconds, so 418 ms is no problem. The intellifex is 24 bit digital which helps with it's super transperent sound. As Robert says, it has chorus, reverb, delay, pitch shift and hush, but no eq or compressor. I think the stripped down effects are great for preserving tone without overdoing the effects - I plan to get a wah, phaser and flanger stompboxes to run a small pedal board out front. With regards the mixer knob on the back of the screamer, I use it a hair less than halfway which just gives enough effect without going overboard. I'm very pleased with the set up. Again as Robert says, the Intellifex and Intellifex LTD (my model) are discontinued, as is the Intellifex online. Hope this helps!

I see the Intelleffect is discontinued but the new rocktron Xpression looks to be the replacement and now has the effects and features (mostly at a glance) that the G Major has.

From my experience with Rocktron gear the Xpression is worth a look at.

I'm in the market for a new rack unit, so I'm curious which would you guys recommend more: the G-Major or the Xpression? I have an old Yamaha SPX-90 that's great for recording, but too unreliable for gigging and can only do one effect at a time (not to mention it's a noisy bastard). So which of these two would you recommend? I need it mostly for delay and reverb applications, but a good variety of strange noises is also something I'm craving. Oh, and foot controller (midi or other) is a must. Thanks...

Looking at the Rocktron website, the specs are similar to the Intellifex (the front controls are exactly the same) but with all the added bells and whistles that the G-Major has. Most of the Harmony Central reviews give it a solid 10/10, so if it was my money, having experience of the quality of the Intellifex, I know where my money would go.
