Has anybody tried the new TC Electronic Poly Tune guitar tuner?

Is this really the best/fastest/most accurate floor tuner around?

Reviews please :)

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I wouldn't. Gut feeling...

You really don't save any time. The time is spent turning the tuning machines, not waiting for the tuner to respond.

The best tuners I have used - believe it or not - have been the piezo headstock models from Korg and Planet Waves. They are cheaper, plenty accurate and don't suck your tone.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I have used the poly tune. It's a nice looking tuner but not very fast IMO. I prefer the tuner of my G-major.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

Well supposedly you save time on quick in-between-songs tuning by just strumming all six strings, and touching up only the strings that need it, as opposed to going through each string individually.

Molenda gave it an Editor's Pick in new GP.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

BTW.... Does anyone know what the mini-USB port in the back will be for? I'm assuming updates or something, but I can't think of a lot of ways to update a tuner

maybe alternate tunings?

I have mine on oder from MF too. I hope they stick to the expected "in stock" date... I'm very anxious to receive mine.

I think it should definetey be faster. Strum all strings and it will tell you which one(s) is out of tune. Then, you only have to adjust those strings and not tinker with the rest. If all 6 strings are in tune, then you don't have to check all 6 strings individually to find that out... you only have to strum all 6 at once! Especially useful if you suspect a string went out of tune during a song. One strum and you'll know which one... a definite time saver!

It sure looks like that USB port is for some kind of update which is cool becuz I heard that the Polytune in Polymode may not support certain types of alternate tunings.

Also, it doesn't polytune strummed chords, just open strings. The USB port will allow software updates if they make improvements in the future.

Looks like I may skip over the Pitch Black a go straight from my 80's-vintage TU-12H to a Polytune.

I was thinking waiting for this when my trusty Boss TU-2 decided to go microphonic on me but ended up going with a used Hardwire stomp tuner. Other then the blinding blue light, I kinda like it's fast response.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I have got him!!

Very nice tuner. I used it with the band and it's GOOD. Fast and reliable. Strum all strings and find out what string is out of tune. Then adjust the string in normal made. Couldn't be easier.

And i can still only tune one string at a time.
I do not know any octopus armed guitarists.

imvho, it is just a gimmick, YMMV.

I will keep my trusty DT-10 (...and TU-80)

How bad is tuned your guitar that you need to adjust the 6 strings? when my guitar get bad tuning is only in 1 or 2 string..., and if you know your guitar you will know which string. :cool2:

I hear you.
I also know all my guitar's personal characters, and i know which strings one which guitars is mmore likely to go out of tune.
I can, with my DT10, check all six strings in 6sec or less, if i feel the need to check all of them.

Usually i just tune one or two strings every 5 songs or so, (heavy on my strings) because i know my guitars.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

As a dude who's never owned but always wanted a tuner pedal, this thing's a no-brainer.

It's the same price as the Boss or the Korg but it tunes all your strings at once and looks cooler. Sold.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

Really dissapointed MF didn't ship mine yet.

When I ordered it on 1/19 MF said they'd be in stock on 2/18, but instead I received a backorder notice on 2/18...

So I checked the website and it said expected in stock on 3/1/2010. Fine, whatever I'll wait...

Checked this morning and now it says available 3/19/2010... What a drag... I guess my pre-order wasn'tearly enuff.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I tested the TCE Polytune with piezo pickups... huge tone sucking. Not so obvious with magnetic pickups. I have read that the input impedance of the polytune is 500k, probably that is the reason for tone sucking with piezos.
