Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

Strange, considering it's true bypass and mutes while you tune.

Anyway, I had one for a while but I ditched it for a Turbo Tuner. I found the polytune mode handy, but I got annoyed that it always showed the low E string to be slightly flat.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I still want to keep it... but I play electroacoustic a lot, and that put me down a bit. I will re-test it today and check out the tone sucking and the E string being flat in polytune mode.

+1 mine too.

Kinda falling out of love with this pedal. Polymode isn't as quick or accurate as I thought it would be... I find myself hardly using it.

I put my trusty old Boss TU2 back on the board and realized what a crappy display it has when compared to the polytune. Polytune's display is much much better.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I've had mine for a while...still diggin it.

Polymode is totally accurate for me...my low E isn't always flat o.O

And for the guy who said he can check all six strings in about six seconds with his Boss...well i can check all six strings in about a second with my Polytone. That makes me SIX TIMES FASTER.

TCE Polytune test

Procedure:
Guitar to polytune input using DiMarzio guitar cable. Polytune output to amp using a 20 cm guitar cable. Polytune was off during the testing.

Results:
I tested the polytune with my ESP Horizon with JB and the differences are not noticeable, I could live with that. Then I tested the polytune with my Ibanez semihollow using the neck pickup. Loss of the low end is apparent. Increasing the low frequencies in the amp seems to fix that. Then I tested the polytune with my Ibanez prestige using the piezo pickups... ufff, loss of low end and high end is very notorious.

Conclusions:
TCE Polytune is NOT true bypass.

EDIT: polytune seems to reduce a bit the amplitude of the signal as well.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

Glad to read the real scoop on this, since I need a pedal tuner. My eyes aren't good enough to see the needle on my Boss TU-12 anymore.

My main requirement is big letters that are easy to see from a distance.
I'm leaning toward the Planet Waves. Anyone have a good or bad experience with these?

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

It works great in single string mode, but I hate the silly polyphonic mode. It sucks IMHO when used that way.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I'll keep the polytune but it won't be in the signal chain.
I think if you use standard pickups the signal loss is not a problem, but when you use piezos which has an extended frequency range, the polytune doesn't work so well.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I've been doing more research on the Planet Waves Tru Strobe in my last post, and am impressed by everything about it. The big LCD readout, true bypass, ruggedness, and tuning features.

I'm seeing it all over Ebay for $70 shipped, and it's getting perfect reviews.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

Glad i read this...i had been looking at these as well.

I'm definitely sticking with my pitchblack!!!

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

I'm discovering that the Polytune is basically useless with my Taylor acoustic. I used it for an acoustic duo show last night, and it wouldn't even track on the high strings. It works just fine with my electric.

So now I have to decide if I either want to keep it and get a Pitchblack, or get a Pitchblack and sell it. I wouldn't mind keeping it and giving it to the other guy in my band without a floor tuner, but he plays acoustic pretty much all the time :banghead:

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

acoustic guitars = vibration-based headstock tuners

electric guitars = Polytune

everybody stop crying

I've got an easier way of doing this:

Procedure: Open back of pedal. Look inside.

Re: TC Electronic Poly tune

yeah...actually my acoustic tunes great with my pitchblack.

i was wanting the polytune to work out...great idea!
