Teach me how to use a:

Re: Teach me how to use a:

Step 1: plug it in between your guitar and amp
Step 2: turn it on
Step 3: adjust settings to your preferences
Step 4: enjoy (or not)

Re: Teach me how to use a:

It can take some time before you find the settings you prefer. My main advice to anyone who wants to use a compressor is to first harness the ability to control volume dynamics with the fingers. Once this has been accomplished, a really subtle setting on the compressor does amazing things for your tone. When a compression effect is noticeable, it sounds really unpleasant to me.

Re: Teach me how to use a:

It controls volume dynamics. Depending on where you set the knob(s), it raises the volume of quieter sounds and keeps loud notes and picking sounds from being disproportionately loud.

Re: Teach me how to use a:

check out the boss webpage. they have a pdf file on guitar effects and what they do and where to place them in ur pedal line and so on. Compressors are explained pretty well in there and also the difference between placing them near the start or at the end of ur pedal chain.

Re: Teach me how to use a:

And for the original poster, the Boss and DigiTech websites also have a few sample settings of their compressors. Most of the settings they list are still a little extreme for me, but it's easy to just cut back on the parameters.

Re: Teach me how to use a:

I agree with baritone you will have to re-adjust to it, the responsivness of the guitar and amp changes quite a bit, I was never able to learn how play through it, it castrated everthing I did. A lot of greats use it however, especially those whom you cant hear pick.
