Good Morning,
I have a hypothetical question to ask.
This question will pertain to a PAF style pickup.
Suppose you desire the sound characteristics of an UOA5 magnet, (where it is meant that an UOA5 can be considered as a tonal combination of an A5 and as an A2) but all that you have access to is an A5 magnet. What can be done at the pickup building stage that can approximate an A5 to "sound somewhat" like an UOA5?
In general, I guess the idea would be to bump up the midrange or somewhat tame the bass and treble.
Possible solutions?
1. Can there be some degree of degaussing?
2. The number of turns of wire on the pickup?
3. Winding pattern done to the pickup? And if so, does this winding pattern have a name? Or can it generally be explained explained.
4. Other possibilities?
Thank you very much.
Greg
