I thought about that too, Mike. It's the tinkerer in me that wants to go the other route though. I've been wanting to learn how to do more on guitars besides wiring work, pickup swaps and hardware swaps, assembly/disassembly.
Last night while looking at the bridge route, I could cut the back slant area so it is straight and then slap a big block in there and shape it to get the original trem route back. Then I could toss a 6-screw Strat trem on there like the old Charvel Stars.
