Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

Is John Spina still doing mods? Can he be contacted?

Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

I am betting you'll dig the UO a lot Lew!

Good luck!

BTW...does Satch run 2 wahs?? I am thinking it's one wah and a Whammy pedal...am I crazy??

I think he was using a Digitech Wah Wah and a Dunlap Wah Wah on his pedalboard around '05.

Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

I have 3 Wahs now as well. A Vox 847 modded by john also, a Vox Clyde McCoy & a vintage Thomas Organ Company Wah that John modded also. I like the old TOC best. Its very vintage sounding.... well because it IS vintage. The 847 is also very good. It has a lot of adjustments that I really never use. I tweak the adjustments to get it to sound like my old one. Then the Clyde McCoy. I use the Clyde with my Marshall, not because it sounds any better its just thats the Wah on the board that I use with the Marshall. It sounds good, but out of the three I like my old Crybaby best. The only major issue I have with it 9and this is minor really) is I have to keep my foot on it or it will drop. Its so ood and worn I have to keep on it.

Great shootout thread Lew, it's always helpful to have hands-on (or is it feet-on, in this case?) comparisons for those who might be shopping for a particular effect. The bottom line...find the wah that speaks your language and STEP ON IT!

Cheers.................................... wahwah

Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

You have to appreciate a very good vintage wah sound to appreciate a Picture Wah Teese. As for not being strong enough. I really don't get that. At very low bedroom volumes I might understand that. But up to giging level there is more than enough wah & cut through sound. More than enough. If you have to have gobs of saturation, Teese makes anything you want.

Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

I dig my McCoy modded by Spina. Best wah I've used...when I plugged it in the first time I realized what I was missing with my other pedals. John has great ears.

Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

I have a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix wah pedal (the discontinued one) and a Teese McCoy RMC1. I *love* the tone of the RMC1 far more but I'm using the JH pedal right now until I get the Teese modded for unity gain. I already play at a pretty high volume and use my knobs on my guitar to go from rhythm to lead so if I'm already playing lead, and I'm already pretty loud, I don't need that boost in volume. Otherwise, I love that wah the best. I'm not sure I like it better than my Wizard wah that got stolen, but we'll see. I was playing a Les Paul dominantly back then and needed something that worked well with humbuckers. Anyone know anyone that can do that unity gain mod on the rmc1?

Re: Teese vs. Fulltone vs. Vox 847 (Spina mod)

Geoff might still be willing to do the unity gain mod on an RMC1, justr email him and ask. If the answer is no you're best bet is to unload the RMC1 and get an RMC2...it'll have the ability to have the same tone as the RMC1 but at unity gain plus the controils will give you 10 additional sweeps as well.

I'll get in touch with Geoff this coming week. The RMC2 is always an option...or unloading the RMC1 and going all out with the RMC3 ...meh, decisions decisions...

The RMC3 is a killah wah but I hate having to open it up for tweaks...the RMC2 has outboard controls making it easy to use and very versitile plus the biggest reason I mentioned the RMC 2 is because the stock RMC2 sound is the same as the RMC 1 but with no gain boost...the RMC 2 has a volume pot so the internal (always on) boost is not needed plus it has the ever popular Q control...great wah!

ahh..I had them reversed in my head...I thought the RMC3 had the external controls and the RMC2 had the internal pots. yeah then I'd definitely be looking at an RMC2. Great wah...just not sure if I'd like the constant adjustment ya know? Maybe I would prefer something I could just set it and leave it like the internal controls....hmmm...well its' not really a pressing matter, I have time to consider it :) I'm pretty set on gear don't really need anything so if I decide to get it it'll be around summer time at the soonest
