Tele 4-way-mod on non-Tele

Hi,
I'd like to make the Tele 4-way mod for a LP style axe. I already have the switch.
My problem is: all the schematics show how to wire the "neck pickup cover". Hmm, since I don't own any tele with such a pickup I do not know which "functionality" it has.

Can someone please explain if I can just ignore the neck pickup cover and wire the rest as drawn e.g. here?

Does the rest remain as described?
For HBs: do I have to swap hot/ground of one PU achieve hum-cancellation?

You should be able to not worry about the wire from the cover because your pickups are already hum-canceling.
