Tele-Gib 3-way switch question

Can you wire two humbuckers to a fender 3-way switch or do you need a super switch? How do you with Tele-Gibs do?

Re: Tele-Gib 3-way switch question

Yes you can wire two humbuckers to a fender 3-way and have it function like a Les Paul. What you cannot do, just so you know, is wire it so the humbuckers autosplit in the middle position. You'd need additional switching for that.

Actually . . . you can. Its my favorite simple dual-humbucker wiring. And its how I have my dual-humbucker Tele.

Virtual 3rd Humbucker wiring

It gives you the bridge stud coil, in series with the neck screw coil for a virtual 3rd humbucker. Cool sound.

Re: Tele-Gib 3-way switch question

Well color me stupid. I guess I hadn't revisited that since I had an H-H strat... and that may have been before you developed that. I completely forgot about your virtual third humbucker mods when posting that. Leave it to Artie to get it to work.

Re: Tele-Gib 3-way switch question

Its not "authentic" Tele-Gib, but its a cool tone. :)

Re: Tele-Gib 3-way switch question

I don't think splitting them is exactly tele-gib, either, but neck & bridge single coils in parallel is one of my favorite tones. That's likely why I never found the virtual 3rd humbucker, because I was never looking for the series operation. I would edit my post and say you cannot split them in parallel, but I'm sure you've got a diagram for that, too. ;)

Heh . . . not with a standard 3-way. I have my limits. :D

Re: Tele-Gib 3-way switch question

Whew, ok, so color me decaffeinated rather than stupid. ;)
