tele-gib?

Re: tele-gib?

Two humbuckers, 3 way toggle switch and even better would be a shorter scale conversion neck.

Re: tele-gib?

The original one Seymour made (and named) for Beck had 2 Gibby humbuckers, a chopped Tele tray bridge and a Tele neck with a new maple board, stock Tele controls, not sure if the pots were changed, I think Seymour left it stock 250s.
So basically, a Tele with 2 Gibby humbuckers. The Duncan JB and Jazz neck pups were modeled after his original Tele-Gib specs so those are the pups of choice for a Tele-Gib...I highly recommend 'em.

Re: tele-gib?

what if you have custom shop stacked single coils that weigh in at:

Re: tele-gib?

Nope, still not a Tele-Gib. Must have two humbuckers (since Gibson's have 2 buckers), and Seymour's has a TOM/Stoptail bridge on it, but a tele style hardtail will suffice. If I remember correctly, Seymour put the prototypes in Jeff Beck's Tele-Gib with the standard 250k pots...wound the pups to sound best with those. Not sure if the bridge was ever "really" called the "Jeff Beck", but it was probably intended to be that, and just never made it through the legal stuff. The neck bucker was originally called the "John Milner", after Jeff's favorite movie (name that movie) and later got renamed the "Jazz Model".

Nothing else (to my knowledge) qualifies as a Tele-Gib.

We have a winner Charlie (and he's even from over the pond), tell him about the prize package he's just won...........

Re: tele-gib?

does it have to have a toggle switch on the upper bout? or can it have a standard tele switch?

The one Seymour made for Jeff was the standard Tele slider on the hot dog plate. The LP toggle on the upper bout was my idea to make my Tele-Gib how I like it.
While browsing through an old Guitar Player mag Watts sent me, I saw Denny Dias (Steely Dan) with a custom Tele made by Skunk Baxter...I'll be damned if it did'nt have a LP toggle and 3 knobs like mine...I tripped out! Oh well, works for me.

Re: tele-gib?

Killer! It has brightened up a tad, maybe because it's an aluminum top loader bridge...but I love it! Thanks. I have to dress up when I play now.

Re: tele-gib?

Thanks Capt. Holy crap! Very nice TG! I kinda wanted the Rosewood board, but the Jimmie Vaughan neck is too perfect for me. I dig the black headstock, I still may paint mine. Nice...very nice. Was that a custom body?

It's a Fender Telecaster Limited Edition? I think, MIK. They only made them for around a year. Mahogany body/neck, rosewood board, set neck, "custom" dimarzio 'buckers. The pickups aren't bad but they're arent great either. I really dig your strat neck though. I just like the shape better than tele's.

Re: tele-gib?

Ahhhhhh, yeah, I remember a set neck gold top Tele with Dimazz's too. Very nice factory custom look models. I would swap those out and try the SD Jazz and JB, no mush from those pups.
That's a sweet SG too.

Re: tele-gib?

Hey butnut, where'd you get a tele body with the switch on the upper bout like that? I can't recall seeing a Fender body like that (all the Tele customs I've ever seen had pickguards). Is that by chance a USACG body (the angle of the pic makes it tough to tell if the input area is flat). I'd set mine up with a toggle like you've got, independent volumes, and a master tone.

Re: tele-gib?

Hey Mike. I used a Roto-Zip spiral saw and made the route...same thing with my original Tele-Gib. PITA, especially drilling the tunnel from the neck pup hole to the switch...gotta go slow from both sides and hope they meet in the middle. Takes time as I don't wanna chip the finish, I'm good with tools having custom furniture biz before, a Dremel also help a lot.
The only Tele body I've seen with a factory toggle there is the John5 Tele...has a HB bridge too. Only in black with a top binding, ebay had one for abot 300 bucks fully loaded, i almost got it, but I scored this ESP? Tele clone for 90 bucks and did all the routes myself. I got a quote from Tommy, was gonna be around 5 bills with all the routes, light Ash, top binding and finished in one color....I was gonna go SeaFoam until the black-bug bit me...guess what...I just got a black Aerodyne Strat body to replace my relic'd jimmie V Strat...damn, I'm sick!:smack:
