Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

What's a good ballsy bridge tele pickup?
Lil 59 now feels too compressed...almost like a jb.
Vintage stack match well?

Thanks!

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

What kinda Tele sound are you going for? If you had a Little 59 in there, my guess is that you don't want it to sound like a Tele, but then you mentioned the Vintage Stack. So, let us know what you look for in a Tele bridge pickup.

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

More traditional tele sound, open. I like the alnico 2 bridge.
My normal tele has nocaster pickups. So fat leaning towards traditional tone that won't get buried in output by the 59 which sounds fabulous there. Doesn't have to be rail or bucker. The lil59 is great dirty but really meh and compressed clean. Using a drri with pedals or a Marshall plexi

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

the jd is a good option since it has a little warmer sound and touch more output but still sounds like a tele pup. there is a custom shop pup that is excellent and would match very well but its pricey, the tapped '53.

a bucker in the neck is always a little tricky to balance since you are using a fatter sounding pup in that position which is inherently darker and produces more output and the brighter thinner pup in the position that naturally has more of those qualities.

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into those.

Anyone else feel free to add to my research. Been awhile since I tried to do this. I had a seth lover and a Thorn Staple in this for awhile, but I liked the 59 A3 better, and the thorn bridge is going to an esquire. It's more P90 ish.
Thought the 59 might be cool and it came in a trade, but not quite right.

Emailed in over the weekend and SD support suggested hot tele stack, but that looks like too much mids when you see the specs.

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

dont always believe the specs, it is more middy than a typical tele pup but not as middy as the lil 59

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

I would concur that the Hot Lead Stack would keep up better with the full size humbucker in the neck. The stacked technology tempers the hotness a bit and allows you to be noiseless on both pickups.

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

I paired APTL-1 with '59 once. I managed to get slight imbalance output between them, it didn't bother me. JD is hotter than APTL-1 so - as Jeremy said - it's good option to match with '59. Besides you have weaker magnet in your '59, A3 instead of A5.

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

I am a fan of the Jerry Donahue, too. While it isn't as loud as the neck pickup, it will give you a great balance of power and Tele tone.

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

No Quarter Pound Tele love?

But I was also gonna say Chopper T

Re: Tele pickup to go with 59 neck

qp is a great rock pup but doesnt sound much like a tele at all, same with the chopper

Agreed.

I played a Kotzen tele, and it does sound good (I'm pretty Anti-dimarzio so that hurt me to say. LOL) but it's not really 'tele' like either to my ear.

I'm liking the lil59 better through the marshalls, but I still will likely change it.
Leaning towards trying a JD.

Thanks for the input gang. Been awhile since I bought pickups,..and I'm more up on the buckers. Just snagged a 59/custom hybrid to try in my PRS.
