Tele Pickups in A Hollow/SemiHollow body

OK so I am a weirdo... I saw some adapter brackets on ebay that allow tele pickups to be put into a humbucker cavity... I have an Gibson ES-137 that I can use to try this out...

Man, I am dying to hear what this sounds like... Anyone know of a sound bite on the web where someone put tele pickups in a hollow or semi hollow body.... Something like a 335 body or larger...

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's most probably going to be an exercise in futility.

But hey, you try it, you tell us!

HTH,

I plan on installing both neck and bridge tele pickups into a Semi Hollow Body guitar... Using brackets that screw onto the humbucker cavity ring..

HTH,

I tend to agree with you... but since there are no demos or examples on the web I can find, my curiousity is getting the better of me...

Those adapter brackets sound cool. Can I get a link to check them out?

Re: Tele Pickups in A Hollow/SemiHollow body

you could always put a set of phat cats, or gfs dream or mean 90s, or pretty much any other humbucker sized single coil into your 137 also.
I love the 137 - its a killer axe, naturally dark sounding acoustically. I reckon a hum size p90 would sound better than a tele pup if you want twang and balls, but if you do try it then let us know how you like it. Part of the character of tele pups is the fact that the yare screwed into the ashtray and therefore connected to the strings. You wont get that vibe with a 137.
I had a 1966 epihone casino and the previous owner had installed a pair of pete Biltoft Vintage VIbe handwound single coil pickups into it. They were more fendery sounding than p90s. I ended up removing them and installing some dogear p90s the way the guitar was originally designed, but yeah...there is nothing stopping you from experimenting!

...heh....while you are at it....put in a bigsby!:cool2:

Well, I had some phat cats just happened to be laying around my house... Man, I am too much of a gear nut... I put those in the 137... sheesh... now I don't want to take them out... They sound awesome... just what I wanted...

The tele pickups project may have to wait... You had to remind me of my phat cats didn't you... :smack:

bottom line is I now have good clarity with overdrive in the neck position... And the clarity (with overdrive) improved in bridge also.... Thats all I wanted...

Those look awesome. Perfect for the SG project I've been planning for like three years now.

Thanks for the link, man. :beerchug:

No problem... that beerchug smile makes me want to leave work and hit the bar... :)

Seems to me that it would make more sense to just buy a Thinline.

Re: Tele Pickups in A Hollow/SemiHollow body

I'm not sure if a Tele bridge pickup will fit in a humbucker rout without some modification of the body - the pickup's baseplate is kind of triangular and AFAIK one corner doesn't quite fit into the cavity.
