Tele Players...

Re: Tele Players...

Well, I've got:

A home-made Sunburst w/Mexican Tele neck, Fender Texas Specials, & El Dorado hardware. Looks like this:

partsGuitar1.jpg

A home-made Stew Mac semi-hollow thinline body, ash w/a curly maple top w/a vintage yellow home-brewed color, Carvin neck w/ebony fingerboard, Lindy Fralin Blues Specials, gold hardware......still a work in progress but I promise pics when it's done.

And last but not least, a MIA '96 50th Anniversary Fender Tele in crimson burst, stock neck & bridge, Fralin Vintage hot in the middle.

I wanna make another in Mary Kaye white w/a Bird's Eye maple neck/board!!!!!

I LOVE A TELE!!!!

Re: Tele Players...

4 Teles for now...

83 US Tele top loader. stock except a Duncan Jerry Donahue in the bridge. Needs nuthin else!

95 Tele Special (like a fat Tele). Lil 59 in the bridge, Callaham vintage bridge, Humbucker in teh neck, 5 way switched.

04 Tele Squire Custom II with P-90's. Contemplating sending the pickups back to MJ here for a hotter mix. Thinking about a refinish to a new color too.

Tele Partscaster. Gold sparkle body with a 91 Am Std Tele rosewood neck. 2 GFS Deam 180 humbucker pickups.

And Puckboy. How is that El Dorado hardware? Looks damn cool! My 95 Tele Special is the same color and I was thinking about that hardware. It's not cheap though!

EXACTLY!!!

I had the extra money, thought it looked cool & went for it.

Very cool looking in person, especially with the ashtry on it!!!

Re: Tele Players...

Honey Blonde HWY 1. Currently stock, but my b-day and xmas money will go towards:
1. Harmonic design T-90 bridge p/u and a Vintage Pluss neck p/u
2. Black (or maybe tortis shell) guard
3. New tone/volume pots.
I'll probably go with the black guard as the V+ neck p/u has a black cover on it. I'll try out an "esquire" look.

Hey Fire Inventor, where did you get your black pickguard for the hwy 1? Im having a hard time finding one with the same screwhole locations. Also, Im going to mount the neck p/u to the body, so I dont want the two mounting screw holes.

Fernandez 50's style ash tele with a 3 saddle steel bridge, single layer white pickguard, vintage white finish, small, vintage style frets, Gotoh Kluson style tuners, SM-1 at the neck, Jerry Donahue model at the bridge, and Gibson style amber top hat knobs ( I like the feel).

Re: Tele Players...

I have a 2002 MIM Tele in black, with a maple fretboard. It has a Quarter Pounder set in it. The body is scratched, dented, pucked, and scraped. There are burn marks in the pickguard. The fretboard is grimy and the finish is wearing off. The neck edges have been precision rounded by... a piece of sandpaper.

I'd love to someday mod that Tele out. The neck is so perfect on it. I'd make it into a rockin' Tele-Gib. I'd probably get a Highway 1 Tele at some point to, to go a true vintage route.

mmm Tele.

Re: Tele Players...

I have 4 American Series Telecasters. One is a limited edition Custom with 52RI ash body in butterscotch blonde, maple neck, black guard and CS Nocaster pickups. The other 3 have been modded over the past couple of years. One is natural ash with maple neck, Nocaster bridge pup and SD SM-3n mini-HB neck pup. Another is white blonde on ash with rosewood fingerboard, white pearl pickguard with SD Phat Cat neck pup mounted in it, and a JD pup in the bridge. The fourth and newest is 3 color SB on alder with rosewood fingerboard and a set of SD Antiquity flatpole pups. I love 'em all.

I also have a Bill Lawrence Swampkaster in ivory with ash body and rosewood fingerboard. It has a new bone nut but is otherwise stock. It's not in the same league as the Fenders, but it cost half as much and does a decent job of things.

Re: Tele Players...

Squier Standard Telecaster neck (maple + rosewood, 22 frets), custom-made heavy ash body with forearm and belly bevels finished in trans yellow, black pickguard, six-saddle StewMac bridge, SD Five-Two pickup set. I have reversed the control plate so the lever switch is in the back, the tone control in the middle and the volume control in the front. CTS pots (250K audio taper), Schaller strap locks. Heavy as hell but rings and twangs like there is no tomorrow!

Re: Tele Players...

Mine is a MIM '72 tele custom reissue. I bought it after trying every tele in my city.

Black body (probably poplar), chunky maple neck. The neck is a bit weird, as it as fat as the standard 70s U shape, but it has the tiniest hint of 'v' to it. Perhaps the neck carvers were being imaginative that day. either way, I love the neck.

Stock electronics, apart from a push-pull tone knob that cuts one coil of the humbucker. I'm not a huge fan of the humbucker's standard sound, but the split tone is great. Usually it's the other way around with splitting humbuckers (except the stag mag). The full humbucker is cool for a fatter shade of the middle position, though.

Eventually, this guitar will get compensated saddles, jumbo frets and a new bridge pickup. But I'm very happy with it as is. It's a workhorse, and has a distinctive sound.

Re: Tele Players...

My "Bastardcaster" is a black MIM, chrome flame bridge & control panel, Graph Tech saddles, Dunlop 6100 frets, Bone nut, mini schaller tuners, black pearloid pickguard, QP Tele pup in the bridge. It's a real wreck and I have a serious love/hate relationship with the thing, but would you like to guess which guitar goes along to EVERY show regardless?

Re: Tele Players...

It's a Stew-mac thinline body Alder w/t a Flame Maple cap. The neck is
from a 83' SQ Squire Tele. 3 brass saddle bridge, Duncan 54' (bridge)
Fender split pole thinline Humbucker (neck) lug nut volume & tone Knobs.

I used Reranch Neck Amber dye and clear coated in Nitro. :D

Re: Tele Players...

I've got Stew-Macs amber & yellow dyes....went thru a mixing period to get it where I wanted it. Stained it, lightly sanded it, rubbed it down w/some brown shoe polish (thanks Butnut!)...it's been sitting for a while; I rub it down occassionally to make sure the polish/wax is pretty much absorbed.

One of these days, I'll clear coat it & fix it up.....just haven't had the time!!!!

***NOTE: That pic is before adding the shoe polish. ***
