Tele with a little 59 bridge, which bucker for the neck?

Re: Tele with a little 59 bridge, which bucker for the neck?

have drawn up my wiring scheme but wanted to canvas
opinion or thoughts

Consider this, I've done it on several HH guitars, all Teles: you can split both humbuckers with a single push pull, and, IMO, toggling both pickups at once makes things a lot simpler than trying to keep track of which pickup is split and which one isn't at any given moment, and the benefit of combining one split pickup and the other not split is of minimal benefit, so you're losing almost nothing.

So... one push/pull to split both pickups, then use the other push/pull pot to switch between two difference capacitors on the tone pot. Having the ability to toggle between .047 uF and .022 uF caps is nice and, IMO, gives you more tonal variety than what can be had from splitting the pickups individually.

Hmm.. interesting..

Up until this week I was happy with the scheme I’d drawn, individual splits (partial on the neck with a 1k resistor before ground) but wasn’t sure
how much I’d use the bridge split. Then I read about wiring two different cap values via push pull (as you stated) and it was new to me, another
idea was to use two tone caps in series, one in the circuit all of the time and the other joins the neck to lower the value.

IE: .033 for the bridge alone but when the neck is selected a .022 in would be in series

in effect it would equate = .0132, (if my maths works out) but in the middle position I’m not sure
how that would work out..

Instead of going with 1K resistance on the split, I'd get some 50K trim pots like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-3296W...674?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d2026872a so that you can tweak the amount of resistance to taste. These types of trim pots are highly precise. IME, 1K is too low of a value to make a big difference. I get the best results between 10K and 20K.

Regarding the cap values, I actually make the difference a lot wider and have one cap be .033 uF and the other .006 uF so that there is a more dramatic difference between them. With cap values between .006 uF and .001 uF, it starts sounding more like a nasal, cocked wah pedal, a good, usable sound. But seeing as .047 uF and .022 uF are the two most common values, I can see a benefit in selecting between those values as well.

Drex,

Do you have an example of how to wire that with a push pull pot?

Thanks

This is pretty simple, the push pull is just acting as a toggle for two different caps between the positive signal and ground. Note that the cap values could be anything you want, these are just suggestions.

That's great, thanks! Had a mental block and overthought it!

Hi guys, Just thought I'd post this for whomever is interested, the finished project (after some wood removal, scratch plate adjustment and a few heart stopping moments!!)

I'm really pleased with the results and appreciate the assistance!
