Telecaster Blender Control

I did try this question on another forum without success so I hope i'm not asking the impossible. I'd like to fit a mini rotary control on my tele control plate which is operational when the three way is in the middle position so I can alter the balance of the two pickups i.e. either more neck or bridge . To this end I bought a WD blender control , anyone got any idea how to wire this in?DSC00708.jpgDSC00709.jpg

Bass-style, eliminate the switch, wire like this:

WITH the switch.... hmmm, idk

Re: Telecaster Blender Control

First the above schematic works but is the substitute of the 3 way. I dont think there is a easy way to use both at the same time. Second: This double pot creates a severe volume dip in the middle position, because both are not full on there, like both are on volume 7 and not 10. My fave is more a blend in solution with two volumes.
Nevertheless in the case of a tele i like the 4 way switch which gives you very nice humbucker extra sound on the 4th way.

Shouldn't be a volume dip iirc

Re: Telecaster Blender Control

Depends on the pot. Some are 50/50 in the middle, some are 100/100.

Re: Telecaster Blender Control

If it’s a true audio blender control (center is both at 100%), normally it would replace your three way switch, though I suppose you could keep it centered and use a switch before it.

It’s wired like two volumes in reverse of each other. Hot lead comes in one side, ground out the other. Center is your output to the jack - you can bridge them together as an output. You have to measure the sweep of each pot individually to figure out which direction is 0-10 for which half of the turn.

Yep, kinda fancy:

Bourns® Model PDB182-GTRB
Blend-Balance Guitar Potentiometer
e Bourns® PDB182-GTRB Blend-Balance Guitar Potentiometer is designed to allow the guitarist to blend and balance two pickups with a single 18 mm package size potentiometer. e potentiometer is designed with two independent elements adjusted by a single sha . Each element has a unique taper as follows:
• Element #1 has a linear output increasing from 0 % to 100 % output over 50 % of the mechanical travel in the clockwise direction. e element then stays at 100 % output for the remaining 50 % of mechanical travel. is output curve is identi ed in gure 1 as the “M” taper.
• Element #2 is at 100 % output over the initial 50 % of mechanical travel in the clockwise direction. e output decreases linear 100 % to 0 % over the remaining 50 % of mechanical travel. is output curve is identi ed in gure 1 as the “N” taper.
