Telecaster neck comparison

I have a stock '03 HW1 Tele. It has a rosewood fretboard. I always liked the sound of Strats with maple fretboards and wished I had got one with this guitar. But, tonight I was playing and just noticed a couple notes were so warm sounding. Is the maple a harsher sound? Is that why there is the twangy, country sound associated with Teles? Sorry if it seems like a dumb post.

Re: Telecaster neck comparison

Maple shouldn't produce a "harsher" sound, but it will be definitely brighter than normal rosewood. A large part of the "spanky" tone attributed to Teles, I believe, is their inherent design. They're an amplified canoe paddle, for want of a better description.
