I'm kinda interested in these little kittens. Seem very versatile as a recording and home amp, also in a small light package. What do you think of them?

Tell me a little. Not too much info on the net on these apart from the reviews on HC and a article on Vintage Guitar mag site.

I've read somewhere that they're kinda Marshall meets Vox to their character and that they love pedals. Waiting on some soundclips from a guy over at Bad Cat, but I haven't got them yet. (their site is down for the moment so I had to mail them)

I'm also torn between the Mini Cat or the Mini Cat II, both 5 watt. Difference is:

Mini Cat: 10" Jensen custom made for Bad Cat
Mini Cat II: 12" Celestion custom made for Bad Cat

Re: Tell about the Bad Cat Mini Cat!

I've never really liked mine. It's the one with the 10" Jensen speaker. It's very bright and hard to dial in a decent tone consistently. I find myself fiddling with the knobs constantly searching for a decent tone and never finding it. For now it sits in the closet. I might try a different speaker someday, but I just replaced it with a Reverend Goblin amp which is very easy to play and easy to dial in a good tone and sounds good with all my guitars at low or high volume. Maybe Badcat could've spent the money they wasted on the silly beltbuckle handle and put in a decent speaker. The Dr. Z mini Z is a cool 5 watt amp or look for one of the Gibson Goldtones. Badcat's site being down for a month or more is not a good sign either.

Re: Tell about the Bad Cat Mini Cat!

I was not terribly impressed with the badcat combo I played. WAYYYYYYYYYy overpriced :smack:

It does kinda have a vox meets marshall character, but IMO it doesn't do either sound well, and the mixing of the two is just plain weird. Maybe a head and a cab would work better.

I'd buy a good 18W Marshall clone before I'd buy a Badcat.

Re: Tell about the Bad Cat Mini Cat!

Thanks guys!

I was a little suprised though, I thought they were killer since they were that expensive lol. The line-out and ability to unplug speaker features of the BadCat seemed like killer ideas though.

You kinda cured my GAS :laugh2: a good thing though, because I won't be able to play it before buying since I live here in Finland. Not much boutique stuff in music shops around here

Any one else that don't like this amp, or maybe someone who dig it ;)

Mkf411, I looked at the Matamp you suggested... but it realized it only comes as a head. I'd like a combo. Too bad...

The Mini Z could be a alternative but I'd like it to have some controls after all. Not only a single volume control.
