Tell me about Bogner....

Re: Tell me about Bogner....

Well i went and played the EL34 shiva.

It was amazing. I could be doomed to be playing on just the first channel (at store volumes no less) any time i picked up a guitar, and be perfectly content with it. Very very nice. It actually made me focus so much on doing the amps sound justice that i started playing better, haha. I messed with the 2nd channel but only for a few minutes. I didn't really feel like tweaking around with it at the time but it was still very nice.

I'd love to have one, but i really think i need to get better at the simple act of playing a guitar before i can think about dropping that much on another *unecessary* piece of gear.

Re: Tell me about Bogner....

Can it really though?

I mean, the Uberschall was surely designed to fill a gap that is missing in the XTC... it's higher gain for a start, you can't possibly say you can achieve the same tones. For the tone an Uberschall does best, an XTC will not suffice IMO.

The XTC can absolutely do metal. It has an extreme amount of tight highgain, but it has every clean and midgain tone in it too. The XTC was Reinhold's brainchild, so the Shiva and Uber were made to fill the gaps left and right, for a more affordable price, and for someone who doesn't necessarily need all the bells and whistles. The Ecstasy covers the ground of those 2 for the most part using the switches, but the Shiva is voiced more for classic rock, and the Uber is voiced more for extreme metal.

To compare them to amps we know, it'd be like Shiva = DSL 50/100. Ecstasy = 3 channel JVM410 100W head, and the Ubershall is more like a Rectifier on steroids.

Congrats on getting bit by the Bogner bug. The same thing happened to me over 2 years ago when I got a taste at low volume, that amp haunted me until I saved up the coin for it :)

YES! It will force you to be more precise. Wait til you get that thing in a studio or in front of a band and hear yourself back on video, etc. It's special!

Re: Tell me about Bogner....

I'm very intrigued by Bogners. My friend is the official local dealer, but has yet to get a shipment, and when he does, it'll be sans Ecstasy.

I'm curious to see what I think of the Shiva and Duende when they do arrive, and I'm constantly on the lookout for a privately owned ecstasy to try out.

I have pretty ritzy tastes in amps these days, and I've yet to hear a channel switcher that can compete on a tonal complexity/clarity basis with a high end non-channel switcher. I also don't need channel switching for my gigging requirements, so I don't have to go down that 'get it all in one box' road that so many of us do. But despite this, I'm still very keen to see what Bogner brings to the table.

I have played the Uber. It's not the amp for me, but by crikey it's a f*cking frightening piece of work. Every player should plug into one just to experience it once in their life.
