Tell me about Teles with two humbuckers

I'm pondering the possibility of getting a second Tele, and equipping it with two humbuckers. I'd prefer to buy a good intact Tele and mod it, but a parts-o-caster is an option too.

I know this type of guitar has been successful for many, and I think it would suit my needs very well.

Anyone with a guitar like this? Tell me more, and post pics if you're able.

Mainly I'd like to know how you think they compare to a more conventional Tele.

Two words: Good Idea.

I built my Humbucker/P90 tele because I liked the tightness and clarity of my HSS strat but I needed a bit more beef and fullness. Thats what I get from my tele but with even more sustain. You still get that tele twang from the bridge even with a HB. I've noticed I can get some really different sounds depending on how far or close I pick from the bridge saddles.

It sounds great clean, it sounds great with high gain, and I'm expecting it to sound STELLAR once your raptor arrives. I say do it :bigthumb:

I've got a couple of Schecter PT teles. They both have humbuckers. They're both great guitars. One has a set neck and the other has a bolt on neck. I really wouldn't consider them Teles though. They're more like guitars with Tele shaped bodies. The cool thing about them though is they have push/pull pots for coil splitting.

I had a Contemporary MIJ Tele, that had 2 buckers and a trem, and it was a fab guitar. It had coil splits too, so covered a lot of ground. ErikH had one, and mine was identical...

I have a Squier Special Tele that I've modded with 500k pots, .22 cap, Little '59 neck and Pearly Gates bridge. I love the the sound I get out of it.

Not really interested in something with wide-ranging humbuckers - I'm talking about a Tele with PAF-sized humbuckers.

I'm going to sell the mini to help cover the cost of my new set of p'ups, so forget it's there.

Like Rowan said, you're still going to get some twang since the strings go through the body. That twang adds something extra when you're playing clean and it really stands out from guitars, IMO.

I have no practical experience to share, but I want you to know that it sounds like a great idea for somebody like you --- an F-style player with a desire for a broader palate.

I can relate big time.

Ever think about the ultimate Les Paul / Telecaster compromise guitar: the Hamer Talladega?

They are prohibitively expensive ($4,000ish), but you could mentally springboard off the idea.

Yeah, I love Strats and Teles. I don't think I'd be disappointed if every guitar I owned was a Strat or a Tele. There are other guitars I like very much, but if I hired someone to paint a picture of me playing guitar, it would be a Strat or a Tele. They're simple, honest, working man's guitars that look great, play great, and sound like rock and f-ing roll. I also like that they're the most mod-able guitars in the universe.

Those are sweet, but a. I definitely can't afford one, and b. I really just want a Tele with humbuckers. Ash or alder body, bolt-on maple neck, string-through bridge, a switch, and two knobs.

There's a very nice lefty ash body in mint green in the Warmoth showcase. They will route it for two humbuckers at no extra cost. I'm starting to lean in that direction.
