While not familiar with the YJM, I am familiar with the DOD 250.
Meh, in the Meh-est way possible. I can think of a hundred things I'd boost with before that. I think YJM just happened to have one, and got used to it. So now it's "his" thing. I can't see ehy anyone would want it even for doing Yngwie. More than enough gain around from everywhere...
I did not know that! I was aware that the YJM is his personal 250, thus the sme. I didn't know the Distortion+ was similar with some gain....
That would explain the suckiness of that pedal. It obviously works for some people, like a co-guitarist I was with and Iron Maiden. But overall, not much love.
look up gearmanndude on youtube. He does a shootout of a YJM308 against an older DOD250 and his own Time Bomb boost. He also has lots of other comparisons with the time bomb boost (which is a well built 250 clone). I rather like it... a little bit like a treble boost but not in the same way. I am not a huge Tube Screamer guy so... that may be why I dig it.
MXR dist+ was used by RR and Wolf from Accept, I dont doubt that it true that three are very similar in circuits, but the YJM, RR and Wold are three completely different tones, its on in the fingers ladies.
I had one- I got it to match with my Malmsteen strat. I didn't like it, it was noisy and didn't have much boost or drive compared to my Tubescreamer TS-9, TS-9 DX or MXR Zack Wylde pedals. The TS-9's and MXR Zack Wylde were better pedals so I stuck with them
