Tell me about the Egnater Tweaker 15

Re: Tell me about the Egnater Tweaker 15

All these heat reports are scaring me a bit.
I'd hate it if this thing went bang in two years or something.

I hope there's things that can be done to cool the critical parts a bit?

There's a LARGE top vent to let the heat escape and most of these people are talking about doing things they're not supposed to do with the amp. I'm gonna call up Egnater today and ask em about swapping tubes because well, this is the internet. :P

Re: Tell me about the Egnater Tweaker 15

I thought it IS meant to take all these kind of tubes?

Well, I'll be waiting for the answer from Egnater to you!

Just don't go running a pair of KT-88s in there, and you should be fine.

I just got off the phone with Egnater and despite it not saying anything about power tube swapping in the owner's manual, they said it was tested and designed to swap out pretty much any Octal tube such as KT-66, KT-77, 6L6, etc. He said KT-88 might not run right, and probably wouldn't fit (duh). SO YOU GUYS WERE RIGHT. :)

+ Another vote for changing out the stock tubes, although I only just tried a few preamp/PI tube swaps BUT one thing is for sure - the stock Sovtek's sound terrible compared to even the Mullard Reissue I have in PI spot (this one adds a nice "mystique" to the tone of the amp whereas a lot of times it's too dark for some amps), and a Ruby 12AX7AC5 Select in the preamp. I haven't even tried any NOS/vintage tubes yet.

Re: Tell me about the Egnater Tweaker 15

I was a bit worried about the loop. but it is a line level tube buffered loop. so as long as your pedal can handle the level mismatch its fine. The only pedal that ive had issues with were analog delays that were true bypass. The carbon copy sounded overly murky and weak in the loop unless you cranked the preamp up.

but my TC flashback and hall of fame sound wonderful. and until i had the HOF my ehx holy grail lived on top of the amp into the loop. also my RetroSonic phaser and Line 6 Tonecore trem and tonecore flanger worked well...

its prob best they went with the line level loop as it offers the most wide application use. there is a factory mod to switch to a lower pedal friendly level too...

I was about to throw that out there but you beat me to it, I'm not sure why they didn't do a better job publishing it but the amp is perfectly fine running other tubes my friend has tried 6L6 and EL34 and loved the results.

It could be the reason they run hot with 6V6 bc typically EL34, 6L6, etc require a little more juice.
