Thank God for Pawn Shops - NGD Warmoth Telecaster

Re: Thank God for Pawn Shops - NGD Warmoth Telecaster

How do you like those pickups?

Presuming you mean the EMG JH Set...

*** From another thread earlier today:

I just picked up a Warmoth Maple Top on Mahogany Back Strat w/a Floyd and it came with the EMG James Hetfield Set. Played it for about an hour and a half and found it very different from my experiences with the Older 80's/90's EMB 85/81 Sets and the more recent ZW 85/81 Sets I've had previously. JH Set was not shrill in any way, very clean, clear and responsive to the dynamics of finger movements. I was actually impressed with them enough to do a bit of research and listen to/watch a few youtube reviews.

I don't even like Tele's, but I would have hit that like a trailer park wife who spilled my beer on my cigs!

Re: Thank God for Pawn Shops - NGD Warmoth Telecaster

I wish I had a Pawn shop that cool around where I live. I have zilch when it comes to good Pawn Shops.

Re: Thank God for Pawn Shops - NGD Warmoth Telecaster

Now you got a great deal! Can't buy a Warmoth neck and body for that price! Congrats.

Re: Thank God for Pawn Shops - NGD Warmoth Telecaster

Thanks folks. Both of 'em were priced too low too pass up. Very happy I ran across both of them when I did.

I actually meant the EMG-T set. I love Tele's and have had a passing interest in the EMG Tele set for a few years.

I have never liked EMG Humbuckers for the reasons you read all the time; sterile, tinny, soulless...with my experiences with 85/81 Sets. The EMG T Set I liked right off the bat as they do a nice job doing single coil Tele if you back off the volume a bit but turn 'me up full and there's plenty of power and warmth. I'm not having any of the standard qualms with either EMG Set.

That said; for the last 15 years I played through Keeley Pedals and a '78 Marshall 2104 JMP 50W 2x12 w/Celestion Greenbacks and pretty much purged everything gear-wise during a divorce so I'm currently plugging into a Kustom '36 Coupe 1x12 that I really like across the board. It's been refreshing to say the least and I have come to tribute a lot of the changes in what I'm hearing in a positive reference to that little Kustom. The Marshall was great but the Kustom has opened up a whole lot of sound for me.

Once again great looking guitars. I dig some Warmoth stuff.

Wait until you see the Bad Ass Warmoth V I snagged over the weekend for $45 more than you paid for your Tele. Bird's Eye Maple neck with a Rosewood board, 2 piece Korina V body, satin clear finish, gold hardware and only a neck position Filtertron pickup.

The place took the ad down before I could grab a shot. Guess I'm a lil bit Iceman on that at the moment.

Sounds really sweet and like a bargain; will look forward to seeing the pics of one soon. Thanks as aways for the kind words.

Great score!

I had an EMG Tele set (the SA set I believe) and they were the only EMG's I ever really bonded with. I think the EMG Tele neck pickup is their best offering, at least out of what I've tried, and I would go as far to say it's the best Tele neck pickup I've ever owned and I am not an EMG fan in general.

Re: Thank God for Pawn Shops - NGD Warmoth Telecaster

It's weird, I never liked EMGs either but the T Set and the James Hetfield Set that are in the Tele and Strat respectively I must admit have been fine. I can only think that they're better suited to the more modern amp that I have now than the '78 Marshall JMP 2104 that I played through for the last 15 years.

It's not easy finding pawnshop guitars you'd actually want to own and use like that one.

Used parts casters are always a case of their loss/your gain.

IIRC, the SA set is actually for Strat, it's the set they use for the David Gilmour preloaded pickguard. I had a strat with the EMG-SA set and really liked them. I eventually traded it in for a nice acoustic, and while I don't regret the trade, I've always kind of wanted another strat with the SA set. I've also always kind of wanted a tele with the EMG-T set.
