That moment...

where you pick up a guitar you haven't played in a long time and you sort of head slap yourself wondering why it just hung there on the wall for months untouched...

Re: That moment...

I genuinely had convinced myself that my Squier Strat sounded better than my Allparts Strat, with the same set of pickups. I did some tests back and forth in late 2014, and left my favorite set of single coils in the Squier because I liked it better at the time.
So I had my Allparts disarmed in a gigbag for around 9 months, because it's not routed for humbuckers and I don't have other single coils.

Frustrated with some tonal shortcomings of the Squier, on a slow Saturday I took the pickguard off the Squier and placed it into the Allparts, also because I thought of selling it.
GODDAMN! I honestly have no idea what I was listening to. The Allparts rightfully eats the Squier. Much louder and resonant, better sustain too.
Now guess who's disarmed in a gigbag. :D

I do have a 1 humbucker, 1 volume pickguard with an Alnico 8 JB that could go in the poor Squier, but its frets are beyond shot.

Re: That moment...

Been doing that this last week with my fluorescent orange strat. Just put a new high e string on it after a few months in the closet. Hot d#$m!

That moment...

Surf green nitro, ash body, birdseye maple quarter sawn neck, vintage callaham parts on it. Duncan Antiquities. My one and only build. But, I'm very pleased with how it turned out. Not much to it other than not screwing up a few screw placements and then giving it a good set up. But, very satisfying. It's alive and it's got more balls than any other Tele I've ever played. running it into the Topanga reverb pedal into the tweed bassman 410 gave it a new punch. Not sure how to explain it. She's a keeper. And she's surf green. I love me some green guitars.

Re: That moment...

Pretty much all i play these days is a tele partscaster. My other beautiful guitars just sit around and look sad.
I like the surf green, it is way too cool.
I would have painted my axe that colour too but im already way too much of a self confessed fan of this dude. Serious chops and musicality:

Lord have mercy! What possessed you to leave it on the shelf for so long?

Btw, Seafoam/Surf Green and Daphne Blue are two of my favorite Fender colors. They just seem . . . "appropriate".

Re: That moment...

Most of mine are in "Project Mode",which sucks 'coz I got no skills w/set-ups or soldering...

But some are still strung up,just to mix it up a bit.Just don't plug 'em in.

Re: That moment...

Too many guitars, not enough time. And I sort of went acoustic for six or 8 months.

It gets worse. The neck is a soft Clapton V shape and compound radius like the 10-56 on my strat. And an Earvana nut in it. 4 way switch as well. Everything I could think of. I've not installed the string T as it hasn't needed it.
