That moment...

Re: That moment...

Happens to me all the time, I have a favorite and a mistress of sorts which translates to a 60-30% of my time being with them respectively, leaving my others sad and unattended.

That's why about a month or two ago I committed the crime of putting those two in their cases thus forcing me to play with the rest.

Gotta admit, there's again a very clear winner for playing time, further revealing that I have more guitars than I know what to do with (*gasp*).

Whenever I think of selling one though I simply can't bring myself to, thinking I'll miss her once I do...

Re: That moment...

I want your lives. At this moment I only have two functioning electric guitars, and one electric bass that I never play. And that's it.

Re: That moment...

Recently re-discovered my old Applause acoustic. None of my acoustic guitars get the playtime that my electrics receive anyway, but this one has been stringless in its case for 11 years... ever since my wife got me my first Ovation back in 2005. This guitar is acoustic only, has a little chunkier neck, and the deeper bowl (Applause was an old Ovation-like brand when Kaman still owned the name... sorta like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac). I've had this guitar since 1984 and it shows its age through cracks in the finish and at the time the neck was starting to bow upward, leaving the action uncomfortably high. At the time, unfortunately, I also had no idea how to fix it, so into its case it went while I kept going with its newer and prettier replacement.

About 2 weeks ago I decided to give a shot to fixing it up. I cleaned her all up, put strings on her, got the neck adjusted correctly, and WOW! I even commented to my wife that I had forgotten how nice this guitar sounds and plays!

Sat on my porch with her yesterday serenading the neighborhood for a couple hours (first time the weather has been nice enough).

"Betty" is back!

Re: That moment...

Black Betty is now the "out in the elements" guitar? I have one that I take camping or to the beach and figure I'll just take my chances with one particular one.

Re: That moment...

where you pick up a guitar you haven't played in a long time and you sort of head slap yourself wondering why it just hung there on the wall for months untouched...

That never happens to me, because I keep all of my guitars in the den, which I walk by every time I come home.

I did have a great period of burnout around '98-'99 when I barely touched any guitar at all, however. I wasn't inspired by much new music, either. I call that the Great Decline. May it never happen again.

Re: That moment...

Yeah when my dad died, I didn't touch my guitar for over five years. He and I used to play together and I just made me so damn sad to even look at a guitar
