THD Flexi 50 Owners...

The cabinet is an old Seymour Duncan 2x10 with a ported back. Sounds great.

I ran the flexi through it's paces with Andy Marshall at our local excuse for a trade show last year, and I was really impressed. Andy's a really nice guy who, as you'd imagine, knows a LOT about amps.

Evan, give THD a call if you have any questions.

Re: THD Flexi 50 Owners...

I talked to Andy and Ed at NAMM. They're great guys. It's a cool amp. Though, I found the centers of the tone controls to be voiced on the bright side. I had to totally cut the treble, dime the mids and run the bass at 4:00 (almost dimed) to get the smoothness I needed.

I have my regular montly gig at a surf bar this Sunday and I'm going back to my Boogie combo (and the SFX-03).

Re: THD Flexi 50 Owners...

I like the SFX-03. I'm acting as one of the beta testers and I'm still in the testing phase. Mike Britt, the guitarist from the Country band Lonestar checked one out in our soundroom yesterday. He was very impressed. His exact words were, "It sounds like amp distortion."

That's a perfect way to describe it.

Re: THD Flexi 50 Owners...

would one - hypothetically, of course - conceivably use an sfx-030 to turn a great sounding 1 channel amp (say, a celtic - for example :D ) into a very cool 3 channel setup? ... dial in the killer clean on the amp, then get your crunchy rhythm and hot lead tones from the pedal?

i'm just sayin'

Who've you been talking to?

"Scott?!?!?"

no no no ... just remembering what i played in the sound room at UGD, talked to the head engineer (great guy) about (smoke-n-mirrors), and extrapolating ... given that you used it with a flexi, i figured i'd be close at least ...

scott's celtic is in my foyer waiting for me to get home and play with tonight ... and i am looking for my first foray into tube amps ... but i know i can't live with only one channel ... if this is the right tonal answer at the right price at the right time (say christmas time or a bit later) then it'll be a cool solution

that's all
:D

ps - i volunteer to beta test :D

Re: THD Flexi 50 Owners...

Evan....curious the hear what tubes you used in the Flexi?....What speakers in the cab??

Do you think they effected the brightness or is that just an inherant trait in the amp...like the Uni ???!!!

Re: THD Flexi 50 Owners...

The Flexi had Groove Tubes EL34s. The cabinet had "Seymour Duncan" speakers, which (don't quote me on this) I think we made by Eminence.

Honestly, I don't know why it was so bright. But Scott Miller said the same thing about it before I took it out of the sound room. I downloaded some suggested settings from the manual. One was call something like "Warm and Smooth," and that one worked fine for me. But the treble was rolled all the way off and the mids were dimed.

Anyway, until my Celtic arrives, I'm back to playing my Boogie.

Yup. SFX-03. Shhhhh..... you're not supposed to know about that yet.

Anyway the Hamer looks great
Keep Rockin :headbang:

Re: THD Flexi 50 Owners...

You know, I bet you have all kinds of good players testing it out, you really should get an opinion from a guy like me- been playing about 8-9 years, decent skills, but nothing too serious - to get an opinion on people like me. But, you'd better hurry before I change my mind.
