The Agile 8 string?

Re: The Agile 8 string?

Hmm yea.. I put my deposit on a Standard Oceanburst one.

Kinda wishing I didnt.. unless I can find a high A string long enough to fit on it, I have no use for a low F#.. So ill have to look for some long scale strings..

Re: The Agile 8 string?

A'ite, I got enough cash on hand to afford the deposit. I made it. I'm claimin one ;).

Can't wait. Hopefully I won't be broke when it comes in ;).

Re: The Agile 8 string?

ESP and Ibanez have a few 8-string models. I don't think I could get into them.

Re: The Agile 8 string?

you guys must be shrooming.

what's the tuning on one of those? i would guess but it will just make me sound even more ignorant than this does.

Re: The Agile 8 string?

Lowest string tends to be an F# People do different shizznite with em though.

It's a good 5 or 6 months away. Hopefully the next batch will kick a lot of ass. I'm a little excited...lots o possibilites open with an 8. Might even buy a 7 ibanez that they have around here for a little over 200 just for messin around with until it gets here.

Re: The Agile 8 string?

so it's like a 7 string with a lower string too?

do you guys just like hate bassists or what? :smokin:

the baritone jaguar my sister has is like a 6 string bass tuned to EADGBe...goes to similar territory i guess. i could dig an 8-string but the style of those isn't very 'xee'...

Re: The Agile 8 string?

Well, the bass guitar in E standard is 2 octaves below a regular 6-string guitar. The Jag bari and other guitars like the EBMM Silhouette Bass are tuned to the E between the two.

I'd kinda like to give one of THOSE a try, since they would be immediately useful for me without making the other dudes in my band automatically have to tune to some crazy-arsed low-F# or whatever.

Re: The Agile 8 string?

That's weird, I was told by somebody else on this forum that bass guitar is only 1 octave lower than normal guitar...

The bari Jag is really cool in a band setting. I used to jam with a friend playing my 5-string jazz bass, another playing lead on my Strat while i held own rhythm on the Jag and it was a very full, heavy sound.

How on earth is there still confusion here?

A bass is ONE octave lower than a guitar.

Back in the day, they would've called a guitar setup like that bari Jag a "tic-tac bass". Because of the shorter scale and thinner strings than that of a standard bass, they used them to double guitar parts.

The 8 string won't really sound like a bass for the same reason your sister's Jaguar doesn't sound like one.... shorter scale and thinner strings. It's got the same pitch as a bass, but lacks the fullness.

Re: The Agile 8 string?

Word. E at the 12th fret on a bass is the same as an open E on the first string of a standard tuned six string.

One octave.

Man, I had never thought about this before. It sure sounds lower than one octave different! Interesting about the thickness of the string and scale length.

I am going to play lots of 12 fret notes on my bass tonight to try and prove this newfound knowledge to myself!
