The high end Vox head and combo have a presence control, the lower end Valvetronix do not.
I love the little 15wt., it is probably the best small amp I have ever used. Works great for recording as well. I am very interested in grabbing one of the heads like 'Joneser has and hooking it up to a nice 2x12 cab.
I didn't play any of the larger Vox's as I was specifically looking for something small but I don't really miss a presence knob on the little guy. I still can't get over what a silly deal these little amps are. The only thing I find slightly annoying on a few models is the internal noisegate. I have to figure out how to messwith that a bit otherwise I am thrilled with it.
I don't think modeling amps are all that yet but this one is a near perfect application!

I've been messing with it all afternoon and night...
The amp controls are very finicky: you really have to tweak, and if you don't save, or forget exactly what you did, it takes a while to tweak it just right again. The gain, volume, and master volumes are particularly critical. Some models sound better with the master cranked, others with it backed off some...others with the volume up full..some backed off, etc.. Fnding the right combo on the Marshall and other high gain models is very tricky...the Fenders and voxes are easy to get "right" comparitively. Figures..since I'll use the marshall modelss 99% of the time
I'm also finding like a normal tube amp it's gotta be pretty cranked up for the best sound. Even if you turn the volume down with the wattage dial below halfway, it adds too much compression to the Marshalls, Boogie, and Soldano and then everything gets real muddy and "middy" and chords sound like mush.
But with the wattage dial up at least halfway it sounds really good..unfortunately at that level it's a bit too loud for playing in the evenings...well at least for the better half and my 5 year old..not too loud for me
(this thing is as loud as my 1987)
I think it's gonna have to go back, and I'm gonna have to look again at something solid-state like the Peavey transtubes or the Randalls..something that isn't so muddy/compressed at "bedroom" volumes.
