OK...throw it out there...Best Marshall head ever...since there are so many I won't make a poll....Lets keep these stock...no modded stuff and no boutiques (that clause is for for you and your Bogner GJ )

Model number...time of production...watts....why....

I'm gonna have to go with the metal face 1987 (50W) ..circa 72-75. Great "bridge" amp from the more mellow plexi tones to the heavier grinding 800 sound. Dime the thing, roll the guitar volume off for great cleans, or stomp on a boost for metal.

As much as I love the 2203/2204, I can't say they're the best one's ever. I have to say it's the 1959 Plexi. Pure sweetness.

JTM45 was a plexi..1959 was a plexi..1987 was a plexi...1986 was a plexi...etc etc...these were all metal faces too (well the 45 wasnt, I dont think)

The years and models make a big diff.

without a doubt the JTM45 Plexi....god what an amazing amp. I've gotten to play one in my entire life (the only one I've actually seen in person) and it was great. Of course, I'd never have a need for that kind of volume I had a 1971 Super Bass 100w, and man...even when dropped down to 50 watts with a master volume on it, it just required too much volume to get the tone that I wanted out ot if

68-69 Metal panel 100w.

However, I'm quite happy with my '78 50w MV.

Ya know Ben I haven't cranked one WAYYY up. But I did goof around with one and wasn't too disgusted by it. Got some decent "classic" tones out of it. But it certainly wouldn't go on my list of classic marshalls.

BTW..sounds better through a reg Marshal 1960 cab than the mode4 cab.

Best Marshall i've had a chance to play thru was a 1985 or 86 Silver aniversary model.... It was brand new at the time but i couldn't afford to buy it.... now those dam things are expensive....

I want a Plexi..... But i think the New Reissues is the closest i'll get to one.. a Canadian artist i like swears the new Plexi Reissues are amazing... i have yet to try one.

Don't know about the HW series (well the 1974X and 2061X own!..but I mean the full size heads), but my 1987X is a great sounding amp (though it's currently out of commission). It's not as big a tone-monster as the vintage metal faces I've played that it's based on, but it's still a great sounding Marshall with the vintage "vibe".

If I could crank the dang thing I wouldn't have a need for anything else

I have not played a JTM45 or a Plexi but I hear they are amazing.

Out of the Marshalls I have played, 2555SL/Jubilee, MKIII 900, MG's, Mode 4's, 800's, etc,

My MKIII 900 2100 sounds the best!

I've played a JTM45, a Vintage 1987x, JTM60, and an MG100.

The JTM45 was definetely my favorite, it could sing, then you could turn it up and it'd get rude. I can't wait till I get mine from Scott_F! :fing2:

Next was the 1987x. I haven't played a 1959 yet although I'd like too.
