The BEST Marshall EVAR!!!!!!

Re: The BEST Marshall EVAR!!!!!!

My favorite Marshall ever is my '88 Model 2555 100W Jubilee head. I'll go with Jeff for my second pick and say an '87-89 model 2210 100W JCM800 split-channel.

My Jubilee settings are as follows:
Presence: 5
Bass: 8
Mid: 8
Treble: 6
Output Master: 2.5+ (as loud as you can stand)
Lead Master: 10
Input Gain: 10

The tone controls on these amps are very interactive. At lower gain settings the amp is brighter; the same is true with master volume settings. The Lead Master only works to balance the rhythm volume (slightly dirty) with the lead (very dirty).

Re: The BEST Marshall EVAR!!!!!!

Sometimes, I think we should keep our mouths shut on these forums about which Marshalls are the absolute best, because if you ever want to buy one, it'll be $1800 instead of $800.....only because the cat is outta the bag!

Re: The BEST Marshall EVAR!!!!!!

In John Rzeznik I trust : "As far as I'm concerned, the best Marshalls are the Mark II Lead 100-watt heads, the first ones with master volume, which they made from ‘75 to ‘81. Those are the best--with the 6550 power tubes".

ERIKH i don't have either of the sl-x's any more but the 1992 was made in late 92 according to the serial # , my 93 was made in feb of 93 . i think the mark III and the sl-x had to of been made at the same time at least at first . both were fine amps but G.A.S. got to me and i moved on .

Ok, well, that's enough to confirm what I had thought, and read. They're kind of like new cars with new models coming out late in the year. New music gear does that too and then again in the new year after Winter NAMM. I don't think the MkIII and SL-X were ever produced at the same time, one stopped and the other began since the SL-X came from the MkIII anyway.

Thanks for the info.

Re: The BEST Marshall EVAR!!!!!!

the one I'm working on right now - 2005 plexi 100w reissue, that's being totally refurbished to 1968 12000 series specs, with a little bit of modification along the way

I know that all too well... I paid $550 for my 2555 in 2001, and I'd like to get another... Too bad they're pushing $1200-1500 now.
