Re: The best Marshall ive ever owned

The best Marshall I've ever owned is my '88 Jubilee 2555; affectionately known as 'the Beast'.

Re: The best Marshall ive ever owned

I tried out one years ago, not my thing.

We all like what we like of course,,,,,but I will say with rectos, especially all the 3-channels (original and reborn), they can really require some decent alone time to hone the tone.
They are very sensitive (for a high-gainer) to input level and tone. With many of today's modern-toned ceramic and/or active pickups the first thing I do is turn the treble knob down low (9-10:00) and turn the mids and bass up more, then adjust the presence last (initially based at about 9:00 instead of noon).

Fun. I have an old Laney ProTube thats been modded to Jose / browneye specs on the way soon. That's a fun tone for a lot of genres.

Re: The best Marshall ive ever owned

I used the Boss ME-6 patch in a band and was repeatedly asked about it. One guy had a Marshall on stage and I was asked often about if that was the amp I was using (Dude - that thing sounds bad@$$ - is that really a solid state Marshall?). My answer was "No - that's a patch I made on this ME6 running into the loop on that Peavey.

As for the Stiletto, Mesa woke up one day and said let's out-Marshall Marshall. They did. IMO. YMMV.

The point is that the best Chinese food may not be in China, the best wine not from France, and the best Marshall may not be a Marshall.

Best Marshall I ever owned was my 1990 JCM900 MkIII head 2100 head. An absolute beast, and it went to 20. ;)

Re: The best Marshall ive ever owned

Wow -that one is modded like crazy. nice.

My JCM800 is modded out in a way that makes the tone controls more useful and preserves the low end through the gain stages

Some of the Mark series have, at least, been used to good effect. The Rectifiers I place in the "just say no" category.

Not a Rectifier fan either, a lot of that has to do with the type of player sound someone is looking for by buying one though.
