Re: The Bigsby trem is the work of evil?
ok, 2nd post, gonna be defensive & attack opinions on this one
first off - is it old technology? yes, but so is just about everything else on a guitar. We're still makin them out of wood, still using the same strings, still makin pickups the same way, the only thing that's RELATIVELY new technology on any guitar is maybe an active pickup or a god aweful floyd rose. In that light, the guitar itself is old technology, so don't insult a trem for being old. It's a tried and true design, they wouldn't still be making them if they didn't have their purpose
2nd - IMO gretsch's own LP's. They're more dynamic, touch sensetive, TV jones are amazing pickups, they play better, and they stand out more, just my opinion though
3rd - of course you can't divebomb with a bigsby, i'm glad, if you could i'd prolly remachine it to where you couldn't. The point of a bigsby is to add a little extra somethin in your playing, not to say "HEY LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!" like a floyd rose. You don't need a wrench to change strings, you don't lose sustain because of a locking nut, and you don't have to cut a huge hole in your guitar & brighten the **** outta your tone to have one.
now, how the **** is the setup tricky? it's pretty straight foward IMO
and they don't look ugly at all, when i see a guitar with a bigsby, i imagine a '67 plymouth gtx all rodded out with dual exhaust & a huge chrome blower stickin outta the hood. It makes your guitar look tough & classy at the same time
once again, they're not to dramatically change your guitar or anything like that, they're to add a little somethin extra in your playing. A guitarist uses a bigsby, a wanker uses a floyd rose
i forget anything?
