The bottom line

I have gotten down to 4 amps in my search for a new amp. I'm stuck between a Carvin SX-300, Fender Stage 1600, Peavey XL Supreme, and Randall RG200G2. I like to play everything from rock to metal. I want to know, which of these amps have the best sounding distortion and tone for what I want to play? :question:

P.S. Play the damn amps u'rself. Being a musicians means making decisions on sound. If u can't pick an amp your ears like, how the hell are you going to make musical decisions regarding notes & rhythm?

Try them out. What works for one person will be a disaster for another. One mans trash is another mans treasure...ok...enough of that lol.

The reason why I'm asking these questions is because I don't have access to most of these amps. So I couldn't exactly try em all out. Nobody around me locally sells these. I'm only gathering other peoples input on how the amps sound. I know that ultimately one has to try out an amp in order to know if they like it or not. There are people on here all the time asking questions like these about amps, effects, guitars, and pups. I'm just interested in other peoples opinions. Any decent musician knows to try before you buy.

Never played on a Carvin SX-300. Fender Stage 1600(of the Dyna Touch series) is ok. Its got watts and if what your looking for is cheap volume(for you first head for example) its an ok choice. The Peavy is pretty good aswell. Couldn't tell you about the Randall except that for Solid state tone they own for metal apparently. I dont know first hand Ive never played one.

You could try out Kustum QUAD heads(the 200 is a better deal than the 100 because it has 100 more watts for a dollar each) their effects arent great but they'll get you by until you have money for a few boxes. Its distortion is pretty good I think. Some people will tell you its not good but I like it lol. Another brand is Line 6. Their Spyder II series head is a great deal and has excellent quality to cost ratio. In my opinion the Kustoms and Line 6s are better deals than what you've listed. Both are good for metal and are great clean. Good luck finding the right amp.

One thing I'd say is that fender DOES NOT do metal!!! It's tough to get a better clean sound than a fender, but for heavy distortion, not very many people will take it; they are more for subtle tube crunchyness. (eg. White Stripes, Strokes, etc). Also, Line 6 stuff can be pretty good for high gain. See if you can have a bash at one of the Spider II amps.
