The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

Get the Cruiser bridge & put it in the neck, like the way Andy Timmons uses it. The injectors are alot humbucker sounding to me than single coilish from the clips I've heard of those. You can skip the areas if you don't want a traditional SC sound in the neck & middle. If you like the Cruiser bridge in the neck then get another one for the middle or maybe the VV 54 Pro for the middle.
Also you may want to go with rails type for the neck in particular, the areas & virtual have pole pieces & that might not align well with the strings in the neck position. My '67 sure has a misalignment happening in that spot, so with the A2 mag & stuff I might just have to move it to the middle later.

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

I talked to a Dimarzio tech and he highly recommends a Fast Track neck and Cruiser bridge. Done!!!!!

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

call me a prick but i've never liked the concept of the single coil sized humbuckers. why go half way? just get the full size humbucker.

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

Chopper is a great pickup, but it can sound a little one dimensional.Doesnt really totally breathe or bloom like a good Alnico design..

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

Injector neck is in no way a humbucker sounding pickup. Its a big fat single coil, but with more articulate high end than most big fat single coils. Trust me, try it. Ignore the PG demos, they don't sound anything like that through anyone else's rig.

I am very impressed with the Chopper in the bridge, and even better with a 500K pot! Right now I have the stock Fender single coils and they sound good. At this point, if I replace them, maybe I will just use Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s. I have been very impressed with Fender Custom Shop pickups, like the Twisted Tele in the new Telecasters!

I don't notice that, not even sure I have ever played a pickup that I felt was one dimensional, LOL. I tend to find ceramic designs to be more my thing, better punch, real creamy, thick and warm. Goodness, I can't get enough of the Chopper!!!!! And the stock Fender singles are killing it too!!!!:approve:

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

Haven't tried the Chopper, did try the Fast Track 1 and 2 in the neck and bridge respectively however. I really hope the Chopper is different to those two.

Really not wanting to rain on anyone's parade but the FT2 was the 1st to go, the FT1 wasn't that far behind.

It's like Jerry said, they sounded great at the beginning, until I realized they felt plastic and one-dimensional.

Let me put it this way, I took them out of my Strat back in 2008 when the Crazy 8 went in. Now it's 2012, the Crazy 8 is still there and I still haven't been able to get rid of them...

Don't worry, you can't rain on my parade. The Chopper sounds incredible. :)

Question: how would the Injectors compare to say a Virtual Vintage at the neck and a Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues II in the middle?

papersoul: will you be changing the wiring in your guitar with this new pups?

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

arellanon,

A Dimarzio tech sent me wiring to split the Chopper so that with the 5 way I still have the 1-2-3-4-5 positions and retain single coil tones in 2 and 4. Only full humbucking tone I have is in the bridge which is fine by me. Sounds great and the stock Fender singles really sound fine to me, very lively and full, pretty quiet too! I use an ISP noise supressor which helps kill any single coil hum. Shocked at how good these single coils sound on their own. No need to change. I am also using a 500K volume pot. I think I can close the door on this strat. :approve:

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

No idea what you mean by "virtual vintage", that is a design from the late 90s and there were quite a few models. They were superceded by the Areas, which include the '67, '58, '61, '54, Heavy Blues 2, Virtual Solo, and Injectors.

As far as vs. the heavy blues 2, the Injector has the same low end thump and mids, but a much more articulate high end. I originally put a HB2 in a guitar that was shy on low end naturally and wouldn't get along with Kinman Woodstocks or the lower wind Areas like '67,58, 61. The HB2 put the fullness back in the lows, but it wasn't articulate enough in the neck for me. The Injector neck had all the balls of the HB2 plus a very nice high end to go with them, fat, big, AND articulate.

As high output single coils go for the neck position, it's the coolest thing I've heard so far, and I've heard dozens. I like it better than the FT-1 in a lot of ways, because it still definitely sounds like a single coil, whereas the FT-1 is something that has "single coil characteristics" but is really somewhere between a bucker and a single. The Injector Neck is also hotter, fatter, and more authentic single coil sounding than the Cruiser bridge.

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

papersoul: wow, it sounds as if your Strat is ready to roll with those selected pups AND that wiring. :cool2:

Ray: sorry, I meant Virtual Solo at the neck. Thanks for the info; I am very fond of these pups but it sounds like the Injectors can give them a run for their money. I will definitely try those on my next DiMarzio purchase.

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

the chopper is god in the bridge of a STRAT.
Put cruisers in the neck and middle and you have the quietest but still real/authentic sounding strat ever! trust me i didnt believe it at first until i tried it

Hi Savage bro....hard to believe the Cruisers are so single coil sounding.

What do you say for the middle, a Cruiser bridge? Either this, or I am trying Injectors, Virtual Blues or Virtual '54 Pro. I am using a 500k master volume and the tone pots are both 250k.

Re: The Dimarzio Chopper is in!!!!!!!! Pic included!

With 500k pots, I'd be tempted to go dual injector neck/middle. 54 is pretty bright with 500ks.
