The Eagles - what they using?

just been watching thier "Hell Freezes Over" DVD. They are a phenomal bunch of musos. Felder and Walsh are awesome, and they have brillant tone. Does anyone know what they were using for that show?

Felder seemed to favour les pauls, and walsh mainly Strats, les pauls and the occasional tele, but what about amps and effects? (pickups even?). I could see that Walshs pedal board looked to have a couple of boss pedals, SD1 maybe, though im not sure, and I couldnt make out what Felder was using, though he seemed to have a fair whack of pedals.

Amps im guessing fender? but I dunno.

Joe Walshs pedal board is.. basically.. every Boss pedal in existance (or at least, it is when he's solo) Im supprised he runs through so many without sucking soo much tone.

Re: The Eagles - what they using?

My guess is that the Eagles are each using one or more pieces of the finest gear available. At that level, you can afford to use a certain amp or guitar or effect for just one song. I'm sure they have very impressive custom built rigs using combinations of pedals, multiple amps, and post-amp rack processing. Joe Walsh seems to use Carvin and Dr. Z amps these days. But just because a famous musician endorses something and even has it onstage doesn't mean that they actually use it by any stretch of the imagination. When you're an Eagle or Rolling Stone, there's basically no limit on what you can have gear-wise.

Seems that a lot of times, what guys have showing on stage may not be what they actually use, but what they are paid to endorse. Case in point, Rick Derringer. He has a deal with a guitar company that i have never heard of, but when i met him at the Player's School when he was rehearsing for a charity gig in Sarasota, he was playing an archtop PRS though a tweed Twin RI that a vacationing student had left there:laugh2:

All I know is - Joe Walsh + Tele/Les Paul (your choice) + Early 70s Marshall = ROCK N ROLL

I saw him doing a solo through a random Matchless (I believe.. ill have to go back to the Crossroads Festival DVD again to check) on stage using a Strat with a single minihumbucker (SD no less) on stage. The tone was just.. massive.

Re: The Eagles - what they using?

Understand they would have all the endorsement they could ever want, but specifically for that show, they were playing all these different guitars, not just leaning them up on stage.

And for the record, Im not contemplating buying any of this stuff (already own more gear than i deserve) just wondering what they use as a reference for what certain gear does. Especially their tone on life in the fast lane.

Was hoping there would be some massive obsessive Eagles fan on the forum who set me straight,

anyway appreciate the replies guys. Cheers

Re: The Eagles - what they using?

I know Walsh uses Dr. Zs now, but I'm not sure if he was using them then. I'll have to break the video back out. Maybe this is a good excuse to go buy the DVD. :laugh2:
