The Epic "New Web Site" complaint thread

Let's compile all the issues (and possible solutions) in one place. You don't need to read this post and worry about duplicate comments. If many people say the same thing, it indicates which things need to be addressed first, and soon.

  1. No "Show All" option on search results. (You have to keep scrolling down to get all to show up. And if you make any change, like click 6-string, you have to go through that process all over again.)
  2. No direct links to diagrams that originally came with pickups.
  3. Diagrams are low-quality images that can't be printed.
  4. Search results shows a 'breadcrumb', like "Home / Pickups / Guitars / Humbucker", but the only link is 'Home', e.g. you can't just navigate to an area you want. Would have been nicer if, for example, 'Humbucker' in this case were a drop down so I could quickly jump over to Strat pickups, rather than have to go back to the top of the page and use the Mega-Menus that shove the whole page down and reveal glamour shots of a pickup coil that I don't care about.
  5. Searching for a wiring diagram is extremely painful. You are forced to go through this I.Q. puzzle of drop downs trying to guess what diagrams are on the site.
  6. On the main navigation, 7/8 string are separated out, but if I click Humbucker, I also get all the 7/8 strings. If I'm searching for 6-string, which I might argue is *fairly* common, I get search results, then I have to scroll down to find and deliberately click a 6-string filter, then get different search results, which throws away my sort and scrolling position I had on the page. It shouldn't be harder/more clicks/more steps to search for 6-string than it is for 7/8 string.
  7. Search doesn't 'remember' my last sort option. Like, if I set the sort to 'A-Z by name', it should stay like that until I change it, not get thrown away every time I search for something

The pickup selector always recommends Black Winter, Invader or Blackouts to me. No matter what.

I miss having the ability to compare specs on the entire line on one screen via the tone chart. Information is more important to me than the appearance. Since that information is all available in a database, it shouldn't be hard to reproduce it in a similar format to the old chart.

Re: The Epic "New Web Site" complaint thread

For me it's just the wiring diagrams should go back to the high quality pdf ones and the tone chart should still exist.

Other than that, it's not so bad.

That's because the website knows what's best for you... You try to pick a different pickup and the site then plays through your speakers "I can't let you do that Dave".

I don't know how long it's been like this, but on my phone, the tabs at the very top of the page open to reveal submenus, but they disappear before I can click on anything.

Re: The Epic "New Web Site" complaint thread

For the record, I'm not snarky. Just disappointed. It's just barely not a failure for all that huge effort.

The conversion from vBulletin 3.x to 4.x went a similar way. Half-baken. Job half done. Worse service overall for all the money our sponsor spent.

And only temporarily since the vBulletin new owners have already decided to let 4.x die and 5.x is unusable. Nobody has ever gone vbulletin 3 or 4 to 5. It's undoable. But they don't maintain or license v4 anymore. So it's all for nuffin.

Not sure if there is a good conversion tool but Invision Power Board has worked pretty well for us for years. Lots of good add on bits as well.

Re: The Epic "New Web Site" complaint thread

I don't get the pricing model on the website? Why would a Invader cost more than JB?

I'm a bit reminded of this. The new website is a bit too much lifestyle and a bit too much information sacrificing for me.

It has way less useful informations (pdf, PUs user instructions) than before. What kind of improvement would it be supposed to be?

Pretty pictures with people supposedly using the products.

(not the ones with soldering irons)

I think this board has given birth to a sub-culture that management aren't eager to embrace (tinkerers with soldering irons). I'm sure they would rather have 1 full time musician to every 1,000 hobbyist and tinkerer.
